The Southern Conference completed its annual Spring Meetings on Friday (June 1). The four-day meetings were attended by each of the member institutions' President or Chancellor, Athletics Director, Senior Woman Administrator and Faculty Athletics Representative. The league's football and men's and women's basketball coaches also held meetings. "We held a very productive session in Asheville this week," said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. "These meetings gave us an opportunity to reinforce the strengths and unique characteristics of this league which have enabled this conference to have success for over 90 years. There were a lot of positive conversations surrounding the long term strategies and opportunities to strengthen our affiliation as a conference." www.soconsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205435582&DB_OEM_ID=4000

I hope they accomplished more than whats in the article in 4 days of meetings. I'd say Davidson & CoC was the leaders in wanting the change to a 16 game conference schedule. Was this enough to keep them home?

I'd like to have a little information on who the SoCon is targeting for membership. Why not get ahead of the cart, and do a few preemptive strikes at the CAA, OVC, BS, etc.

an article out of Chattanooga on the SoCon meeting SoCon agrees on basketball tweaksThe annual Southern Conference meetings concluded Friday with none of the member schools leaving and no new school joining the SoCon. "We understand that App State and Georgia Southern have been fairly public about aspirations to move to the Bowl Subdivision, but as their coaches and administrators said, you need an invitation and their phone isn't ringing," SoCon commissioner John Iamarino said via cell phone. "They're happy to be in the SoCon and we're happy to have them. So we look forward to continuing with them." The presidents, chancellors, administrators and coaches agreed on tweaks to men's basketball with the goal of raising the conference's profile. They changed the process for earning a first-round bye in the SoCon tournament beginning this season and will switch to a 16-game conference schedule for 2013-14. "There was a real sense of collaboration and a collective desire to make the league as strong as possible," UTC athletic director Rick Hart said. "Moving to a 16-game schedule provides equity in the schedule, and the December games that we're giving up will allow us to get a quality home or neutral-site game." www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jun/02/socon-agrees-on-basketball-tweaks/?sportscollege
