Matt Stillwell chose music over baseball and scored a home run. As a student at Western Carolina University, Stillwell was such a talented athlete, it was assumed he would be a professional baseball player. “I played all through college at Western Carolina for coaches who are now at Georgia Southern University,” he says. But on the side, Stillwell played music. “I like to say music chose me,” he says. “As I got to my senior year, music kept creeping up. “I could have chased the baseball thing, but I realized music is something I wanted to do at 70 and needed to get started on,” Stillwell says. “I felt it was the thing I needed to chase more.” As the country music singer/songwriter’s popularity grows, Stillwell knows he made the right choice. “My job is to entertain and make sure people have a good time and remember who I am when they leave,” he says. savannahnow.com/do/2012-08-29/rising-country-songwriter-matt-stillwell-returns-saddle-bags-savannah#.UD9pJ9aPWrg
