.....There is talent on this team. These kids play hard but have no control over the game decisions that are made. They do what they are told......Folks, its early and these are non-conference games, no need to panic now. Suport your WCU Baseball team. Go Cats. No one doubts for one second there is talent on this team, there is a great deal of talent on this team. There was also good talent on the team last season, that certainly underachieved, and guess what, it all started just like this. Just a coincidence? I hope so.

I agree with Cat 7, show up and see what's going on so you'll be informed before posting in ignorance.

I agree with Cat 7, show up and see what's going on so you'll be informed before posting in ignorance. I always post ignorant posts so sorry!!! Try to be negative to get a positive result. Works most of time. and dont post anything i would not say to any one of the coaches. For you naysayers I have been reading your posts, let me say this, Until you come and see the games and know the situations, it would be useless to spout off without having the facts. Yes, we had 7 errors against Michigan State and looked bad but we got a great pitching outing from Null. In the 2nd game, the Umpires took center stage after saying Spiess left early when video from the game clearly shows he actually left late. In my opinion that changed the momentum of the game. We hit the ball against Miami but right at people and could not get any to fall in. It happens. By the way Maimi (Ohio) beat Michigan State earlier today, not a bad team. In the night cap as I mentioned before there was some poor game management. Also, the umpires once again took the spot light by not being in position to make crucial calls. Oh yeah, and not once but twice the Cincy player leaned into the pitch and got away with it the 2nd time for the game winning run. There is talent on this team. These kids play hard but have no control over the game decisions that are made. They do what they are told. McKinney had a sore shoulder and Neary was banged up is the reason they didn't play. Ridings had a stomach bug yesterday and had to have IV's to be able to play today. Folks, its early and these are non-conference games, no need to panic now. Suport your WCU Baseball team. Go Cats. I asked why Ridings did not play and thank you for answering that. I think your post was directed at guys questioning a strategy or two and some directed at me. I will disagree EVERYTIME with anyone who says these games do not mean much. Thats a bunch of horse sh&^. Every game means everything especially when we should be playing for postseason not to finish just good in SoCon. The one good thing is it is early in season so there is time to play into position for postseason but WCU can not afford to lose many of these games. This team is too good and has too much damn talent for that crap. Ill take an atlarge bid to NCAA over a regular season SoCon title every time. Michigan St is decent but Miami and Cincy are bad.

^^^ I agree we got to take every game seriously. I also agree on your quote from the second page, our team seems to play catamount style against great teams (SEC conference) and then like little leaguers against teams we should be sweeping. In the 2nd game, the Umpires took center stage after saying Spiess left early when video from the game clearly shows he actually left late. We the alumni and coaches need to get off blaming the refs and umps. Our boys have to learn to suck it up and play around it. We do this in basketball and football too. Great post Cat 7, welcome to the boards. Hope to see you often during the season. Thanks for the info from this weekend, hope our players get rest to get healthy at 100%. Tough break we got this weekend with the flu.

Tough weekend, we had everything that could go wrong go wrong. Bad officials, sick and hurt players, bad weather and the error bug. The good news is that even then we were still in the ball games, losing 2 by 1 run in extra innings. Sure we should have came out of the weekend with a 6 and 1 record but the bottom line is we didn't. Hopefully this will make us stronger and hungrier and we will start playing up to our potential and not down to our opponent’s level and in the long run more victorious. I have confidence that the coaches and players will figure it out and be able to play through adversity. Not to start a fight on the board but it appears that even with all the money the football team gets (heck the baseball players had to raise money from their families to get new uniforms!) all they play around is the bands top notch performance at half time.

My comments were not directed at anyone in particular, just addressing the negativity. It is okay to question calls or even disagree with what is going on. If we have a bad day, I will say we had a bad day. But you can still support the team.
I don't like to lose anymore than the next person. I would love to win every game. But you know, this is college baseball and anyone can be beaten on any given day. Take a look at some of the bigger programs so far, they have not had it easy.
My point about the umpiring this weekend was they need to know the rules and know where to be when the plays happen if they are going to umpire at any level. You are going to have calls go your way and you are going to have them go against you. That's just baseball. You know you have seen a good game when the umpires are not a factor.
As for team performance, it starts at the top. You can't micro-manage and expect positive results. I would expect a coach to be knowledgable enough to know when to do what in certain situations or when to make or not make pitching changes or how to do a line up so no one pitches around your big hitters. I am talking fundamental baseball decisions. Our pitch calling has become so predictable that the other teams figure out relatively quickly when we are throwing breaking balls.
Regarding our players having "to suck it up", this isn't little league or high school. At this level and higher, all players know they have to play through adversity.
GO CATS!
