Posted already in 'MLB Draft' thread, but looks like the kid needs his own thread.
Shutout on Staten Island
Ridings goes 4-for-5 in professional debut
STATEN ISLAND, NY (June 20, 2013) - So you're a 21-year-old kid from Shelby, NC who's watched his team roll off three straight wins in convincing fashion. Finally, the manager calls your number and you see your name at the top of the batting order. Easy, right? Not necessarily, especially not in your first game as a professional baseball player. Julian Ridings blocked all this out at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Thursday night. As a matter of fact, he paced the Renegades right from the first pitch as part of a 4-for-5 night at the plate in a 6-0 victory over the Staten Island Yankees.
The Western Carolina University product broke the ice with a leadoff single off Yanks starter Rookie Davis. He then got the green light from manager Michael Johns and stole second rather handily before moving to third base on a wild pitch. Three batters later, a fellow rookie in his first at bat would bring him in as Johnny Field grounded out to short to make it 1-0.
Renegades starter Ben Griset scattered three hits across the first three innings with three strikeouts before being replaced by Eli Echarry. But Ridings made sure to help with more run support in the top of the third after picking up a single for the second straight at bat. A Patrick Blair sacrifice bunt moved him to second, which allowed Ariel Soriano to reach down and golf an RBI double down the left field line to score the 'Gades second run. In the fourth, Ridings brought in Omar Narvaez with a two-out RBI single. Are you starting to get the point?
