Western Carolina guard Trey Sumler has been named Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year and a SoCon All-Conference First Team member by College Sports Madness as announced Wednesday by the organization's staff.
Sumler, who was second in the SoCon and 44th in the NCAA with 18.4 points per game, earned All-SoCon First Team and SoCon All-Tournament team accolades from the 2012-2013 season. On the defensive end for the Catamounts Sumler averaged nearly two steals a contest at 1.91 per game ranking him 79th in the nation. His 37.7 minutes per game average was highest minutes per game average in the SoCon and ninth highest in the NCAA.
