A big thank you to former Catamount Greg Holland (2013 MLB All Star and Kansas City Royals Single Season Saves Leager) for stopping by and talking with the guys after Saturdays game.

BTW, I just got back from a couple of weeks in Arizona, where my grandchildren and I overdosed on Arizona Fall League baseball. Matt Benedict (Pirates organization) is playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Got to speak with Matt briefly before one of the games. He is progressing well through the Pirates organization. If he has a good Spring Training, he is hoping and expecting to be assigned to the Altoona Curve (Pirates AA farm team in the Eastern League). Said he gets back to Cullowhee as often as he can. In case you didn't know if, each of the major league teams send 7 players to the Arizona Fall League for development. AFL lasts 6-7 weeks and each team plays 6 games each week. They choose players that they think might be ready for the major league team in a year or two. Watching the World Series this week, the Cardinals have used two players that I saw play in the AFL last October. www.mlbfallball.com is the AFL website. So far this fall, Matt has pitched in 7 games; 9.2 innings; 7 K's; 3 BB's; allowed 7 hits and 3 runs, however only one of the runs was an earned run; 0.93 ERA; no W-L record. The Scottsdale Scorpions roster this year is composed of players from the NY Mets, NY Yankees, the Braves, the SF Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates.
