Cats win game #1, final score 18-15.
Both teams lack good mid-week pitching.
It's on to Boone for game #2.

App is up 0-8 in the bottom of the 6th.
This team is just downright bad on the road, poor pitching, poor hitting, and error prone.

I have been following several players from my area that have and are playing on Western's team. I would like to make some observations if I may. 1) With the exception of senior Tyler Powell Coach Moranda is the only college pitching coach the pitching staff has known. 2) The majority of the pitchers were either recruited or their recruitment signed off on by Coach Moranda. 3) That in the past 3 years there have been arm injuries that have led to pitchers being shut down, have limited playing time, have quit the team or have had surgery (just like Georgia Tech.). 4) I have heard that when the prior pitching coach was released that Coach Moranda made the statement that now the responsibility for the success or failure of the pitching was his. I'm glad that the guys from my area are not pitchers. It would seem now is the time to make Coach Moranda accountable for the performance of the pitching staff and the injuries that the team has suffered to pitches and position players alike. It is hard to go into a game when you know that you must score 15+ runs a game to have a chance of winning (especially with several position players dealing with injuries). Sure Western has won the past 2 SoCon regular season titles but IMHO it was not because of the coach, the team had enough healthy talented players to win in spite of the coach.
