Two games in Round Rock over. Series tied 1-1. Fresno fell behind 7-1 early in Game 1 but battled back to lead 8-7 going into the 9th inning. Tyler was 3-5 (including a HR) with 3 RBI's. He was playing 3B because the regular 3B was called up by the Astros this week. He didn't make any errors but looked a little shaky on a play or two at 3B. Had not played 3rd in over a month. Round Rock player blasted a solo HR in the 9th to tie the game and RR won in extra innings.
Game 2 last night was won by Fresno 3-1. Tyler was 0 for 3.
Today is a travel day and Game 3 is Friday night. Fresno is heavy favorite. RR has a losing record on the road for the season. Fresno has the best home record in the league for the season. But they will still play the games anyway... That's baseball.

Round Rock beat Fresno Friday night AT FRESNO (unexpected) to take a 2-1 series lead. Grizzlies won yesterday (Saturday) to even the series and force a Game 5 today (Sunday afternoon). The winner will be the Pacific Coast League champions and play a one game AAA championship against the International League champions, Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians).
RR scored one run in the top of the first and Tyler blasted a two-run HR in the bottom of the first inning.
Game still being played. 1:00 start in California.

Found this video on the Fresno Bee website:
That was Tyler's first inning HR shown going over LF fence and they show part of his trip around the bases.

Last night there was a single-game, winner take all AAA Championship game between the Pacific Coast League champs (Fresno) and the International League champs (Columbus OH). Pacific Coast League has 16 teams and the International League has 14 teams, which accounts for all 30 MLB teams having a AAA farm team.
Game was played on a neutral field in El Paso. Fresno won 7-0 and Tyler went 2 for 4 (both of the hits were doubles). In the other 2 AB's, he just missed a HR that was caught at the fence and he struck out when he was fooled by a changeup. Game was carried nationally by the NBC Sports Network. Announcers were bragging about what a "fine hitter" Tyler White is. Bobby Valentine (former ML manager who was one of the announcers last night) said, "you can't get a fastball by him."
Weird game in a way. Fresno and Columbus both clinched their spots on Sunday to play this game on Tuesday night. The Fresno starting pitcher who would have started last night was called up to Houston on Sunday morning (Dan Straily - who was in the video in the earlier post). Fresno had no starting pitcher ready to go with proper rest. They had Chris Devenski (Cal State Fullerton product) who had been at AA Corpus Christi all year and been one of the best starters there. He had been sent up to Fresno a week earlier after CC got knocked out of the Texas League playoffs. Chris had pitched a couple of innings total in a couple of games at Fresno.
So Fresno started Devenski and he had a no-hitter through 5 innings. Fresno jumped out with 3 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Devenski pitched 7 innings of one-hit shutout ball. They brought in one guy for the 8th and another guy for the 9th. Chris Devenski was the MVP of the AAA National Championship game in his first start in a AAA game.
Tyler is going to get a ring that says AAA NATIONAL CHAMPION.
Astros farm system has worked in concert beautifully this year. When the big club pulled someone from AAA Fresno, an adequate replacement came up from AA Corpus Christi. Same thing all the way down the organization. Someone came up from A+ Lancaster CA to backfill Tyler at Corpus Christi when he went up to Fresno.
Astros called up some key players from Fresno in September but replaced them all. Chris Devenski was proof last night. Astros = First Class Organization (as of the last 3-4 years under the new ownership). By contast, the OK CITY Dodgers had the best record in the Pacific Coast League during the regular season. LA stripped them at the Sept callup and gave no decent replacements. Round Rock (8 games worse record during season) beat them handily in the first round of playoffs. If I was an OK City fan who had shown up for games all year, I'd be torqued to see the rug pulled out at playoff time.
