I don't understand all that Rule 5 crap or how many options someone has either.
There was an OF named Domingo Santana who had been on the 40 man roster all year... and had been Up and Down between Fresno and the Astros a couple of times... Sometime in July, he (and 3 other minor leaguers) got traded to the Brewers for OF Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers (the pitcher who threw the no-hitter last night). So they had to drop one other person from the 40 man roster to make room for those two guys coming over from Milwaukee.
Everything the Astros have done in the past 3-4 years has turned to gold. Nearly every draft choice has worked out well... Tyler in the 33rd round a good example... nearly every trade decision... Mike Fiers with an overall MLB record below .500 pitching a no-hitter a month after coming to the Astros is a good example.
I DO NOT expect a call-up for Tyler in September this year.
I DO expect he will be sent to the Arizona Fall League this year. If he makes a good (or better) showing in the AFL, I expect he will be involved in a trade during the upcoming Winter Trading time. Houston's major league roster is loaded with young players. The pipeline in their farm system is full. Fresno has the best record YTD of any AAA team. Corpus Christi has the best record YTD of any AA team. Quad Cities has the best record YTD of any Class A team.
Tha Astros have gone from the outhouse to the penthouse of MLB in just 4 years. New ownership and new management is the reason.
And BTW, Tyler proved he was human last night by going 0 for 3... He will probably get to take a game off tonight to rest.

After a home stand where they won 11 of 12, the Fresno Grizzlies flew to Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday for 4 games against the Iowa Cubs. Single game Monday; DH Tuesday; Single game Wednesday. Not a pleasant experience.
Iowa won 3 of 4 and Fresno only got 18 base hits in the 4 games. Tyler got 2 of those 18 but he had 2 0h-fers. On to Omaha tonight to start a 4 games series vs. the KC Royals' farm team.
BTW, Tyler faced Rafael Soriano (used to be the Braves closer 4-5 years ago) last night in the 8th inning. He flied out to the LF warning track against Soriano. Rafael was in Iowa on a rehab assignment. Tyler did not miss a HR by much.

The 8 game road trip continues to be Not Good for Fresno. They lost the second consecutive game in Omaha last night, but it was a very interesting game.
Alex Gordon, who played LF in the World Series last year at KC, played the entire game last night on a Rehab assignment. He was 3 for 3 for Omaha.
Tyler was 1 for 2 earlier in the game. He came to bat in the top of the 9th and Fresno down 2-1. Fresno had runners on 1st and 2nd and one out. Tyler singled to RF and the game was tied 2-2 on his RBI. He was lifted for a Pinch Runner (who was thrown out trying to steal 2B). Tyler's single came off Joba Chamberlain who pitched from 2007-2013 with the Yankees. 2014-2015 he had been with the Tigers. Was released by the Tigers last month and signed a minor league contract with KC and assigned to AAA. On the downhill side of his career, obviously. But he had some decent years in New York.
Fresno lost in the bottom of the 11th. 3-2
1-5 on the road trip with 2 more games in Omaha.

Pacific Coast League (AAA) regular season over. Houston is apparently not going to call up a bunch of players to the Bigs and strip the Fresno team for the playoffs, which starts tomorrow night. Starting SS, one OF, one of the Catchers and one of the Starting Pitchers have gone up. Rest of the team intact for the playoffs.
Fresno finished with the second best winning percentage in the 16 team league. Okla. City Dodgers has the best record, but some of the top players have gone up to the Bigs.
First Round of the playoffs is the Divisional championship. 3 of 5 vs. El Paso. First two games in Fresno but the last 3 are in El Paso due to a predetermined system of what sub-division hosts what games in odd years.
Winner of the Fresno-El Paso series will play the winner of Okla. City vs. Round Rock Divisional series winner for the PCL championship. Fresno or El Paso will host games 3-5 of the championship series.
Tyler finished the regular season at Fresno with a .362 BA and 59 RBI's in 57 games. No one else even approached 1/game for RBI's. 7 HR's in Fresno.
Overall for Corpus Christi and Fresno, he had a .325 BA with 99 RBI's in 116 games. 14 HR's total plus he won the HR Derby at the Texas League All-Star game. Quite a season for a great young man.
Hope he keeps up his level of play during the playoffs and leads Fresno to the PCL championship.

Fresno beat El Paso the first two games of the Divisional playoff. I tuned in last night's game in the 2nd inning and El Paso was up 2-0. 3rd inning Tyler came up with the bases loaded and singled, driving in 2 runs. Fresno went on to win 5-4.
Game 3 in El Paso tonight. Best of 5 and El Paso will host the rest of the games.
Round Rock is up on Okla. City 2 games to zero because the Dodgers stripped OKC of most of their top players in the MLB September callup. Round Rock won their sub-division but were 8 games behind OKC in the regular season.

It is sad that the Astros are playing politics & not calling up Tyler. It is obvious that he is one of the best hitters in their organization. Tyler is being held at the AAA level in preference for their higher draft choices.

Tyler is being held at the AAA level in preference for their higher draft choices. Its not politics but a business decision. They dont have anyone on their 40 man roster they want to remove from it and risk losing. Sucks for Tyler but happens all the time. If he was on the 40 man already he would be there.

He needs to have a good showing in Spring Training (with the Astros or with whomever, if he is traded over the Winter) and come out of ST on the 40 man roster.
32 is right; the key is being on the 40 man roster. Even though only 25 of them can be on the active Majors roster at a time, the others are playing in AA or AAA and might get called up at any time to replace someone who is going on the Disabled List or going home for 2-3 days for Bereavement, Child being born, etc. Or just struggling at the time. Send them down and bring someone else up who might be able to contribute more right now. Happens all the time.
I don't know what his Fall/Winter plans are. Rather... what Houston's plans are for him. He played last Winter somewhere in Central America. He might need a few months off.

Fresno wrapped up the Divisional Series vs. El Paso last night with a 7-4 win. Tyler scored two runs; one on a solo HR and then he came around and scored after getting HBP.
They start a 3 of 5 series vs. Round Rock for the Pacific Coast League championship on Tuesday night. Games 1 and 2 are in Round Rock and the remainder are in Fresno.
