Western Carolina head baseball coach Bobby Moranda today announced the details for the 2017 "Celebration of Catamount Baseball," to be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 in the Grand Room of the A.K. Hinds University Center. For a third time over the past four years, a former Catamount baseball player who has played in the Major Leagues will headline the event. Former WCU All-America infielder -- and current Houston Astros first baseman -- Tyler White will be honored at this year's banquet. White follows previous WCU/MLB keynote speakers in right-handed pitchers, Greg Holland and Jared Burton. In addition to honoring White, this year's "Celebration of Catamount Baseball" fundraiser banquet will also include a reflection and recap of the 2016 Southern Conference tournament championship run and NCAA post-season appearance; an introduction of the 2017 Catamount baseball captains and team; and introduction of the 2017 Leggett No. 7 Legacy recipient.

We play Clemson Feb 22 on the road and Clemson will not be visiting Cullowhee in 2017. All I got for ya. GO CATS!!! We have a home/home series w/Kennesaw, and we play in the LeClair Classic in early March against ECU, St. John's and App. Also home/home UNC-A, a single game @ NCSU. I can't find another major university in the region that has scheduled us. I've looked from Virginia, TN, NC, SC, GA, and Alabama. A little concerned... No Georgia Southern, Elon, Georgia State, Jax St, Tenn Tech... I'm sure there are a few in those states I've overlooked, but I'm wondering. Are we playing a midwest and west coast OOC schedule this year?

SC Cat posted this on the Pride site: IN ADDITION TO WHAT 75 HAS ALREADY POSTED, I found the following..
No sure why we are the only SoCon team that has not posted their 2017 schedule.
Feb. 17-19 - Baseball at the Beach - James Madison, Richmond, St. Johns, N. C. A&T and (host) Coastal Carolina are the other participants
(We will play St. John's on the 17th; Coastal on the 18th and NC A&T on the 19th. We will not play James Madison or Richmond.)
Feb. 24-26 - Marshall Thundering Herd will come down from WV to escape the cold (?)
Feb. 28 (Tuesday) - UNC-A comes to Cullowhee
March 10-12 - We will go to Lincoln, NE to play the (Corn)Huskers (They are going to try to get some revenge for the 2016 Clemson Regional game)
March 17-19 - Kent State will come to Cullowhee for a weekend series
March 22 (Wednesday) - Gardner Webb comes to Cullowhee
March 24-26 - We go to Greensboro to play Womens College (only the old-timers will understand that terminology)
March 29 (Wednesday) - We will play UNC-A at McCormick Field
March 31-April 2 - CitDogs come to Cullowhee
April 7-9 - We go to Johnson City to play ETSU.
April 11 (Tuesday) - We go to Clinton, SC to play Presbyterian.
April 13-15 - Furman comes to Cullowhee (Thurs. thru Sat. to avoid playing on Easter Sunday 4/16/17)
(BTW, long-time Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone is going to be helping coach at Furman)
April 17 (Monday) - We go to Charlotte to play the UNCC 49ers
April 19 (Wednesday) - We return the trip to Gardner Webb
April 21-23 - VMI comes to Cullowhee
April 28-30 - We go to Birmingham to play Samford
May 5-7 - Wofford comes to Cullowhee
May 12-14 - We will go to Muncie, Indiana to play Ball State a weekend series
May 16 (Tuesday) - Presbyterian comes to Cullowhee to complete Home-Home non-conference series
May 18-20 - We go to Macon to play the Mercer Bears (Thurs-Saturday to get an extra day rest before the tournament)
May 23-28 - SoCon tournament at Greenville Fluor Field

I'm still around and kicking... just not quite as high...
Got thoroughly disgusted after the football team meltdown in Bristol. Have already given up on basketball this year.
But I have very high hopes for Catamount Baseball in 2017. Lots of experience returning, along with decent depth, especially pitching. Hate we lost Coach Guilliams but believe we are still solid.
Not understanding why every other SoCon team has announced their 2017 schedule except us... What's the big secret?
Not understanding why we have not posted a roster showing the newcomers who have joined last years returning players. What's the big secret?
Not understanding why we don't have some mid-week games vs. Davidson, App, Withrop and a couple of Big Boys like UGa, GaTech and UT.
I'm ready to get things started down in Horry County Feb. 17-19 !!
But before that I'm making plans to come up on Feb. 4 for the Baseball Celebration... I suppose there will be a mailing to those who has been baseball boosters before...

My guess on not posting the schedule is that we still have a few gaps to fill with decent teams. It's been like that the last couple of years. I like the fact we rarely OOC DII teams.

We NEVER play D-II schools in baseball. We struggle to have an RPI high enough to get an at large bid. We haven't had an at large bid since 2007, even the two years when we won the regular season and lost in the tournament.
You want to play all the Big Boys that you possibly can. And hope they are competitive in their Power-5 conference. If they are a cellar-dweller, that kills your RPI also.

Yeah - but we have to win some of those - which we usually do...
