The Baseball team just got home from Raleigh late Monday night. They had to leave today for a tough Midwest road trip. Going to be playing the Mizzo Tigers out there tomorrow and then on to Lincoln, NE for a weekend series with the Cornhuskers.
Mizzo is 10-1. They were 4-0 in a round-robin in Corpus Christi TX two weekends ago. They beat a really good U of Houston Coogs team and the U. of Illinois that weekend.
Nebraska is 4-6. They went 1-3 against some PAC-12 teams out in Arizona one weekend. They just finished a really tough weekend in which they lost to Arkansas and Okla State but defeated CWS runnerup U of Arizona.
We are going to need some consistent, good pitching from someone other than Bryan Sammons on this road trip. And keep the bats going....

Watched the entire game. Bray did a good job for 6 innings. It is hard to watch Korey Anderson pitch. I was pulling for him the entire time. If he could throw more strikes, he would be a great pitcher. He was nibbling around the edges and not getting a lot of calls go his way. He threw a lot of balls in the dirt and high. He was not consistent. I think he is hard to hit, because the batter does not know what is coming next. The reliever for Mizou (Sycma sic) or something like that was a good pitcher. Our guys could not locate the ball. He did a good job of hiding the ball and our guys could not pick the ball up. He throws across his body and hitters have a hard time picking up the ball. We had many guys just stand there and take strikes. 10 innings and we lose by 1. We could have won if we had stronger pitching throughout, but I think we will be OK when we get into conference if these pitchers can get better.

Those announcers on the SEC broadcast were very generous with their praise of the baseball program at WCU.

He can not hit spots consistently & tends to overthrow on his fastball. When I watched him pitch in Myrtle Beach, he did not take enough off his curve to make his fastball more effective. When you are a closer you have to have command of your pitches, stay ahead in the count, and be able to expand the strike zone. If you closely watch Bryan Sammons pitch, you'll see he accomplishes all the above objectives. Korey does not throw strikes efficiently to be a closer. He does throw a fastball around 90 to 91 MPH but does not have consistent control. However, I do think the starting pitchers are getting better. However, the starting pitchers need to pitch more than 6 innings per game to lessen the problems associated with the bullpen.

Mizzou's last pitcher (Sikkema) is a Freshman. Pitched 3.2 innings (11 outs) and had 6 K's with zero BB's. Gave up only one hit. That is lights-out pitching by anyone, especially a FRESHMAN.
Gotta give them credit. I expect Mizzou to be a factor in the tough SEC... along with Vandy, Florida Gators, the Gamecocks. Texas A& M, Arkansas and the LSU Tigers.
