I think Coach Mo is trying to load up the lineup with the most home run hitters and that explains the errors. Short played third last year, a catcher is playing third and a third baseman or EH is playing 2nd. Coach will figure it out. The Socon is an offensive conference. The pitching was not bad -- probably just a lot of nerves. And there were some good surprises out of the bullpen.
There is a red shirt freshman middle infielder that will probably end up playing second who has sneaky power. They will probably move the freshman playing 2nd to third and Sparks will EH.
This is the best defensive team Coach can put on the field and likely, the best offensive team as well. Whoever is hitting can EH.
It's a long season, but they will gel and be a solid team.
Once Coach gets a feel for what he has, he will make the appropriate adjustment.
Until then, watch them gel. It's a long season!

You tell em 75. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching is the name of the game. Big question mark for this team. No experience in the bullpen. I think it's pretty clear, Western has not Pitching. 5-0 in the bottom of the 1st. So FlCat, what you got to say now?

Beside bad pitching, errors are killing this team. 8 so far.

66 is right. Sparks is a catcher and Coach Mo is just trying to get home runs in the lineup. Franklin is not pitching bad at all (6 hits thru 5 1/2). Good first outing for the freshman. Mo will figure it out. He always does. I'd like to clean up the defense though. An error that scores 2 is the same thing as a 2 run homer.

Mo will figure it out. He always does. What if he doesn't figure it out?

I agree that Coach Moranda will figure it out. He sees these kids every day. My kid plays on the team (RS Freshman) and he can rake, but didn't hit so great in the fall - he didn't even get an at bat this weekend which lends credibility to 66 and interested fan's comments. It makes sense that Coach Moranda is just trying to get sticks in lineup. Coach Moranda has been around and will figure it out. The SoCon is an offensive conference. It will be fine. It's just the first weekend. Cream rises to the top! Go Cats!

I say that ECU has a better baseball team than we do and the first part of the season might be painful to watch. Too early to give up on them in my opinion. Allot of new faces and coach is playing people out of their natural position right now and I guess as some have said to get more hitting in the lineup. Might be a down year which would make you 100 percent correct in your early season prediction but I still think it is still to early to know exactly how good or bad we are.

To Disappointed Fan, actually pitching was only bad in the first 2 inning of all 3 games. I didn't make Friday's game, but of ECU's 17 runs on Saturday and Sunday, I believe 12 came in the first 2 innings. once the pitcher's settled in they pitched ok. Infield errors were also a killer, bad throws from 3rd cost us dearly getting out of a couple scoreless innings that turned into runs. No, we may not win the SoCon this year but Bobby will get them better.

If pitching is suspect (yet to be determined) you better have your best defense behind it. Pitchers have to be confident to pound the strike zone and not fear contact. ECU was able to put up 25 runs in 3 games without a line up full of bomb droppers. Long way to go but 8 or 9 errors in a three game set will defiantly make it seem longer. Looking forward to seeing this group click. Holcomb (C) left game in last inning yesterday. Looks like he may have tweaked leg on backstop. Hope he is OK. He is a wall back there. GATA Cats
