They split with Ohio State and split with UW-Milwaukee over the weekend. So they are no cupcakes.
We will be tested.

It looks like it's going to be a long season after all...... I was at the game through 7 innings today, and if not for the 3 errors at that point, we would have won straight up. They scored three runs in the 4th on 2 errors and three of those runs were with 2 out. Frustrating. I saw three of the four errors committed today and they were all in the infield. First base is weak - three dropped balls today. TWENTY FOUR ERRORS in SEVEN games!!!! If we can't turn that around, it will be a long season. But I truly believe if we can improve our defensive play, we will have a decent season. More stats: If you look at our hitting, we are OK. 63 for the Cats, 77 for opponents. If you take away Friday's 2nd game 14 - 2 hits, we're pretty even against some decent competition.

I have seen almost every game. There was a bright spot this weekend .... the red shirts. Mitschele looked great on the mound. Fricks got one at bat and roped it into right center against the Canisius pitcher that gave up only 2 hits the whole game. Cappell had a pinch hit home run. Maybe they can contribute.

Additionally - true freshman Zach Franklin pitched a solid 5 innings. He had 7 K's and 5 hits. The 5 runs allowed mostly came on 3 errors mentioned in my post above.

Agreed we need to get better defensively. We have a few that are playing positions they have not played before and I feel with more game reps that will fix itself. My concern is even with those errors we still had a chance to win up by 3 in the 9th. Walters obviously had lost his control and the coaches never sent anyone to the bullpen until he had walked several and labored to even throw a strike. That alone should have been enough to had made a move and let alone he threw I feel too many pitches in a row. I also felt he did this to the Bishop kid on Friday. I had people looking around and asking if they were trying to blow that game on purpose. I don’t think they were but it sure looked like it. Hoping it gets better all the way around. Again, I think the defensive miscues will get better with those playing new positions getting more time and reps in those spots.
