Big Baseball you must be smoking something. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The guy can't recruit or coach. Lol! As a former Cat, someone surely sees he is a used car salesman. Bob, maybe you should watch your insults. My late father was a used car salesman and an honest one at that. I don't give a rat's ass if you are a former player or the greatest athlete WCU ever produced, you are not welcome to post on this board. PERIOD.

I can speak from experience because my son came to Western because of the schedule we play AND the fact that lots of players get drafted from the program. There were better deals out there when he committed -- much better, but he wanted to come to Western. There have been many good players come through during Coach Mo's tenure.
Would I like to see my son play regularly in a position that he knows and was recruited to play? Sure. But, I'm not the coach and I haven't had a lot of players drafted every year (though I've had a few of my travel ball players drafted in the first 2 rounds!) HAHA
Socon starts soon. We will be fine.

Well there are folks on this board who have said that Speir is not the right guy and we should have won a SoCon crown by now. So yeah - if you don't perform - you should go.... Hopefully - you all know I'm being sarcastic. I like your sarcasm and I also think Coach Speir should stay as long as he wants. I think we all need to admit that it is not easy to perform as a coach at Western. History proves that. I like to read the post from people with short memories. As an example, I agree that it was time for Coach Hunter to go because of allot of factors but the folks who post things like he never did a good job are not living in reality. When coach Hunter took over the program, Steve Shurina had pretty much destroyed it. Also, as AD Eaton has said, almost none of our coaches have a full slate of scholarships to give. The good news is that if the NC Legislature continues to fund the Promise Program our coaches will have the full amount of scholarships going forward which is a great thing. I believe in the next 3 to 5 years you will see better sports teams because of the promise program. It is funny what proper funding will do for athletics.

Actually Coach Mo did make a change at LF. He hit into a line drive DP, bummer, he reached on a fielder choice and he grounded out. He has only batted 8 times so maybe this will work out. He is hitting the Ball. I think making changes helps. It gives motivation and hope. We will see!

I don't want to make the excuse that it's tougher to be a winning coach at Western than it is anywhere else. We have unique factors, but every school has its weak points. Just because Davidson has a winning heritage (in basketball) and LOTS of $$$, how do they recruit students from high schools with 3,000 students in large urban areas? Just saying, we should accentuate the positive, and minimize the negatives. Good coaches will produce good teams. Look at Track and (usually) Baseball.

I agree with your point that good coaches can produce good teams and we have had a tradition in baseball started by Jack Legett and some others. Western also has some unique characteristics and our academic reputation continues to rise, but just like everything else allot of it comes down to dollars and how many dollars are put into athletics. In basketball, Davidson has a much richer tradition than we do at D1 basketball and they don't have football, plus they have deep pockets. I believe that in 3 to 5 years if the NC Legislature continues to fund athletics properly, we will be much more competitive across the board. You can be a great school but if you don't have scholarships to offer and facilities, you are not going to get kids to come and play for your teams. Honestly, I think Randy has done a very good job allocating the scarce resources that he has and with the promise program we are going to find out how good of an AD he is as the playing field is leveled.

16 games in and not much success for the Cats. In previous posts I have mentioned what I see as a lack of competition at positions. I stand by that. You would think at his level and with these results that (as mentioned on another thread) a "next man up approach" would be warranted. Before Hodge's start in LF at Tennessee it had become clear that there were 9-10 position players that were going to be given game action. Although putting the bat on the ball three times, will an 0-3 day be seen as his chance to break into the lineup? Check this out. Since we don't seem to be competing in the won/loss column, please save me the difficult schedule jive, let's try some internal competition and see if we can't salvage some glimmer of success for the season. Make the players compete for positions during practice, games, classes, lunch, breakfast, sleep, dinner. I bet that results would be seen on the field. Complacency is cancer on a team. If you are not worried about beating the guy next to you how are you going to beat the team across the field from you. At this point it seems as though the 9-10 are going to be shuffled, put into new positions and bumped up and down the batting order. I feel there is enough talent on this group, (Won't use the word team for obvious reasons) to push each other to improvement. Let's get players in position, let them compete, let them improve and let the wins begin. Here is my take...... C - Holcomb - Beast behind and at the plate. Would love to see him step up a bit in leadership Capell - Needs some reps. Let the youngster push and learn from Spence1B Bullock - Seems to have disappeared lately. I'm not sure of the reason but I sure hope it is not because of the numerous position changes. L. Robinson - Solid player. Imagine these two battling it out for PT 2B Fricks - Has been out of position when he plays. Has shown what he can do with the stick. Henthorne - Has also disappeared since 2 starts against Canisius. Saw him during Fall workouts and was impressed
3B Bigbie - Apparently isn't coming off the field. Good clutch hitter. Needs to be pushed Sparks - Has been moved around too much. Let him Push Bigbie and join the 1B guys for DH spot
SS Blaquiere - Like Holcomb he need to step up leadership role. Lots of talent that needs to be squeezed out somehow Prater - Would learn a lot and push Blaquiere. Seems like a natural SS playing out of position right now
OF Koehler - Stud in the OF. I hope the pressure of trying to carry this team offensively has not affected his plate approach
A. Robison - Good glove. Need his bat in a hurry
C. Robinson - See above
Wilder - Has gotten on base via BBs and HBPs. Has good presence in OF
Hodges - Has the look of the lead-off batter that we desperately need. Has a lot of game experience that there is no substitute for
I would love to see some serious competition begin. Give these GUYS the chance to make the Cats better. 38 games to go. Every team in the SoCon. will be getting better this week. Are We???
Go Cats!!!!!!!! GATACats

I have heard Bullock hurt his hand in his last at bat and may be out for a while.
