Watched the game on ESPN3 and came away with some positives and negatives. The first positive is that we don't see the Vols again this year. The most glaring difference I noticed between the Vols and the Cats is that the Vols seemed to have settled into a powerful identity since our first go around. We are trying to find an identity. Second positive is that our position players were 12 for 33 during the game. Not too shabby against the talented slew of pitchers we faced. 3rd positive is that some players got some good experience and showed that they are able to compete. As I have said before if you start by having to beat the guy beside you, beating the guy in the other dugout will happen more often.
On the negative side I think our pitching looked like they hadn't seen the mound in weeks. Oops, that's right most of them hadn't. I really hope that our mid week games see some pitchers getting some much needed game reps. There is no way replicate this in practice or BPs. 2nd negative were the errors. As was mentioned at this level errors are errors. 3rd negative I feel was the lack of production from players that have seen ample time on the field. Our "regulars" were 0-6 when given that much loved opportunity to bat in the late innings of a blowout. Not an easy thing to do.
Those of you familiar with the movie Major League I think I have the ultimate coaching move for this team We just need BIG BASEBALL to do his part and provide the cutout. LOL.
I have a good feeling that the tide is about to change. Once these guys get a taste of a few Ws we won't recognize them. That being said it is going to be up to the coaching staff to get the players in the right places and pull all of the levers they are getting paid to do. Use your talent Mo. All of it. Get these boys to see it as their team and not your team and I think you will be amazed at the results. It takes every one of them buying in though. Coaching is a hell of a lot easier when you are winning.
Best of luck this weekend Cats. Protect your team, your teammates and the legacy of WCU Baseball. We Got You!!!!!!!!
GATA Cats

GATA Cats If what you are saying is true GATACAT, we may see UT again in the regionals. It would be great to get on a hot streak, but we've been waiting and waiting nearly half way through the season. Let's get this figured out and not have to end with the worst record in WCU history. GO CATS!!!

Gatacat you are way more optimistic than I. What I saw was errors at positions 2,4,5,6,9 and though 3 or 4 hit batters and a balk from position #1 aren't officially errors they are free bases. That has to be a NCAA record or something.

Agreed. And still ZERO emotion from coaches or players. It seems like a morgue out there most of the time. I'm not talking about a lot of shoo-shoo rah-rah. But I would like to see someone get pissed off and step up. This group seems to be waiting for someone to give them permission to be good. If you were to ask me who the leaders were on this team I wouldn't know what to tell you.
