Could someone please tell Coach Mo that you cannot TANK in the NCAA. Having the worst record in the NCAA does not get you the Top Recruits. In fact, any quality recruit will run as far away from Western as they can get when you have the worst record of all programs. Check this out, yesterday 2 of the starting outfielders are hitting in the 100's. Our lead off hitter, one of only 2 sticks to get 5 AB's, is hitting in the 100's. . Not only is he keeping them in the lineup he is moving them up in the order. Brilliant! I have been around baseball a long time and if I am wrong here someone please tell? Its sounds like Coach Mo wants some kind of moral victory yesterday. That's bullcrap! We could have won the game yesterday if we had some production from some non performing players. This program is in the toilet. No recruits are going to come here when you have the worst record in the NCAA and it doesn't matter if the guy in front of you is contributing at all in the lineup. They plays regardless! Even after given 31 games of chances ! Some kind of Uncle Coach Mo stuff going on. It's a sad day to be associated with the Western Carolina Baseball Program. I hope administration is watching and seeing where our program has gone. In the Toilet my friend!

I doubt if anyone in the WCU administration has been to a baseball game this season, much less cares about the program. Even when we were the best program in the SoCon for a couple decades, I could count on the fingers of one hand how many times I saw a chancellor or top administrator at a WCU baseball game. Take away the money that Lamar Hennon. E.J. Whitmire and Larry Stanberry put into the program in the 70s, 80s and 90s and Bobby Moranda's effort to upgrade the stadium several year ago...otherwise, it has been only token support. Sad situation and very frustrating to those of us who love Catamount Baseball.

Saint Peters of the MAAC is 0-24. Can we play them next year? www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi

Saint Peters of the MAAC is 0-24. Can we play them next year? www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi Yep! Almost. We got right in there and competed. That's what it is all about it this point huh? Moral victories for the Chosen Ones. Glad to see that after unlimited opportunities (to the detriment of others, team and program) some of the COs are coming out of their extended spring training slumps and almost playing average baseball.
I guess we had better get used to this lineup. Finally after 31 games and a 3 win 28 loss record the COs are coached up enough to almost win one. For the those of you that like numbers here are some. After 31 games we now have 9 position players with over 70 at bats and at least 22 games started. 218 Ks. We only have 8 pitchers that have thrown more than 18 innings. Sounds like a team ready for the home stretch huh? Lol.
For the tenderonies who frown upon players being called out by name I get it. That isn't proper behavior. However if you are only going to give the COs the keys to the car, don't be surprised if everybody isn't happy with how they drive. Oh and don't ask the forgotten ones to wash the car and fill the tank. (Late inning appearances in decided games) A 3 - 28 record doesn't allow the disparity in appearances and opportunities on this team to be justified in my opinion.
Glad to see progress is being made, but my neck size has tripled due to all the damn head shaking I've done this season.
Good luck down the stretch Cats. And for God's sake COs stay healthy!
Go Cats! GATA Cats

So the ones with 70+ ABs are the "chosen ones" (COs)?

So the ones with 70+ ABs are the "chosen ones" (COs)? Seems that way catnthehat. ABs after that are minuscule. As a D1 player you would have to feel blessed to play on a team that would give you 30 plus games to work out the kinks Lol. Any ways, it's not where you start it's where you finish. That being said we need more pitchers in the mix. Go Cats GATA Cats

So the ones with 70+ ABs are the "chosen ones" (COs)? No, I think you have about 4 players in the starting lineup that you can legitimately classify as COs.

The stats can be found at www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-basebl/stats/2017-2018/teamcume.html. We have 11 guys that have more ABs than 31 (the number of games we have played). I know that doesn't exactly work out this way, but on average at least 11 guys have averaged 1 at-bat per game. But we have 9 guys that have more than 70 ABs (meaning on average more than 2 per game). As a team we only have 16 HRs, and 67 total XBHs (versus 199 singles). So as some other guys have mentioned, it seems like the entire team really just has particularly a power-hitting problem. Pitching has seemed to have gotten better recently, but in a total "Captain Obvious" statement we have to start hitting the ball and moving runners and scoring runs - through 31 we have averaged 3.63 runs per game and that is pretty anemic at the college level. We could fix the pitching and commit no errors but we'd still be struggling to win. Shake the batting order up. Bunt every batter until the other team proves they can stop it (a very "travel softball move" that I have seen). Have a hit and run every time we get a guy on base. At this stage we either need multiple guys to get white hot or we need to do everything OPPOSITE of whatever "normal" is.
