It doesn't appear Coach Mo has many "good" options which is his fault for not developing the players into good hitters. Just curious to what everyone thinks he should be doing differently with the lineup? This may be a tough question to answer since we can't mention names. Please read the forum terms of service - 3. Attacks on WCU players, coaches, faculty/staff members or employees won't be tolerated. Criticism is fair. Discussion of published & verified news reports is fair. Posting unfounded or unverified rumors should be confined to the Members Only board. The head coach was named in your post, but, IMO was not singled out in a personal attack. You did, however, get your points across. Players can be identified, as long as they are not attacked. Naming a player and giving their "batting average" is not an attack, it's factual. Naming a player and saying something like, "player X can't hit $hit and should be on the bench" is, in my opinion, a personal attack. I think it's also valid to call into play the coaching strategies when those strategies are not working for whatever reason. All of this can be done in such a manner that no one is attacked. Criticism is fair when done properly. As you all know, players, parents, and prospects read this board. Catamount prospects seek out message boards to read about teams they are considering, just put yourself in the shoes of any of those folks (parents, players, prospects), and imagine how you would feel if you read some of the things that have been said on this board. I'm not making excuses for this season's record, or any coaches, players or the administration, but we can get our point across, without being vile, mean, or petty. If you think Billy Joe (who has been riding the bench all season) should get a start and replace Jim Bob who's made 18 errors and is hitting .123 for the season, that's fine. However if someone should say "Jim Bob is not a D1 player and shouldn't even be on the team much less starting", well, I got a problem with that, which goes beyond criticism and is a personal attack.

It is quite simple, it is ridiculous, and no Quality Program coach would ever do what he does. The non regulars have been given a trash at bat in the 9th inning in a hopeless cause when the umpires are ready to go to the house. Not one of the non regulars have been given the job and its up to them to keep it. When you look at some of the stats of the REGULARS after 39 games ,we are 4-35 and still they haven't lost their job. Ridiculous! Ever player on that team should have had a legitimate chance by now. What is the worst thing that could have happen? Us being 4-35 He is building nothing. He is not holding young men accountable. That is not Right.

I would go as far to say at this point he should have put in the Trainer by now. But Nope just his boys.

Baseball Guy,
What would your lineup card look like if you got to fill it out this weekend?

Thanks for your post Jerry. Criticism certainly should be allowed, and nobody should make excuses for a season this bad. But if I was a player, or as a parent if I had a prospective baseball player and I stumbled upon this board, my interest was probably already dwindling because of the record but WCU would be totally off my list based on reading the same posts over and over.
Nobody would argue this has been a dumpster-fire year, and that it is past time to shake things up. I'm just saying I believe the point has been made. No matter how many more times it gets said on this board, I don't see coach Mo making any dramatic changes and I don't see the conversation we keep having doing anything except hurting any players, parents, and (worse) prospects who are reading. It would seem e-mails or phone calls to Coach Mo or Randy would be a better avenue if driving change is the actual goal. I have coached and had daughters in travel Softball and this board sounds a whole lot like the bar or at one of the "team mom's" houses after a really bad tournament weekend.

Coach Mo is a paid employee of the University & should be subject to any justifiable criticism. One of the biggest problem with this team is having 4 Catchers & 16 pitchers with approximately 8 having limited pitching time on the mound. Coach Mo has done a sorry job in recruiting depth for his position players. That is why he has limited depth at the infield & outfield positions and having to play players that should not be in the lineup. This team is a terrible hitting team & this can be the lack of coaching. Lack of position players has had a major impact on the errors committed this season. Example of this is when Coach Mo had 4 catchers playing in the infield at times this season (3rd base, 2nd base, 1st base and the Catcher behind the plate.

Have I accused Mr. Roland or anybody of making untrue statements? Let's stick with facts, and one fact is that at least 9 (maybe more) athletes that wanted to come to play baseball in Cullowhee are in jeopardy of changing their mind, and every post that is made on the baseball board this season, gives them another reason to change their mind about Cullowhee.

If they do not sign with WCU, it want be the results of anything posted on this board. It will be the results of the coaching on the field & the current players on this team. If you have watched the Cats like I have, it would be hard for anyone to convince me that no Coach in Catamount Baseball History has ever put a team on the field that has been this pitiful. It is hard to protect a team like this year from perspective players. The damage to the WCU Baseball Program this season has been tremendous & it will be a big hurdle to jump to restore the program back to a respected status it has achieved over the years.

I agree with Jim on this one. We have won what 4 games this year and 2 conference games. I think worrying about what is posted on this board or any other message board is the least of our worries when it comes to HS players picking the Catamounts.
