CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- After five years leading his alma mater, Parkland baseball head coach Dave Garcia is heading to Western Carolina to become the Catamounts' hitting and catching coach. "You know I'm really looking forward to it," Garcia said. "When I came here, I never expected to look at leaving but when the opportunity to coach at Division I school came about, I really had to take it. "All the relationships that I've gained with all my ex-players is something I'm really going to miss and obviously Parkland supports athletics and I can't thank the administration and all my coaches. I've had great coaches and been very fortunate." Garcia took the Cobras to three-straight NJCAA D-II World Series appearances, including a runner-up finish in June. www.wcia.com/sports/local-sports/parkland-garcia-heading-to-western-carolina/1318438431athletics.parkland.edu/coaches.aspx?rc=14&path=baseball

Been HC at Parkland for 5 years. Took them to JUCO National Championship the past 3 years. Lost championship game in June.
