Trying to just stick with facts, what Jerry posted is the average across all men's head coaches at SoCon schools. Several of the school's have more sports, and it is no surprise the only head coaches who make any real money are football, basketball, and baseball. So schools with more sports will have their averages drug down. From other threads and from the NC university system's database, you can see Speir's salary in 2017 was a little over $213k. I don't know where that sits in relation to the other head coaches because the 2 figures aren't apples to apples (1 is specifically Speir's pay and the other numbers are averages across all head coaches at all SoCon schools). I would imagine the salaries at ETSU and Chattanooga could be found fairly easily, and VMI and Citadel are also public and could also be found with some digging. We probably aren't going to get numbers for the privates outside of some ballpark figures. I did see a thread about Sanders - he is in for some significant bonuses with a playoff appearance, conference championship, etc. I'd say those are going to be well deserved. But in any case, based on what we know it is impossible to say exactly where Coach Speir's salary fits without more numbers. Just trying to be reasonable and provide some clarity on the numbers that keep getting used. I think he is being paid around 215,000 in 2018.

If my memory serves me right, I think A&T had an outstanding record last year and they played in the NCAA Playoffs. Just maybe the Coach at A&T should be paid more than Speir. Speir has won nothing in his 7 years of employment at WCU. It would also be interesting to compare Coach Speir’s Salary with the two previous Coaches at WCU. A&T played in the Celebration Bowl rather than playing in the FCS playoffs - it has a MUCH bigger payout than participating in the playoffs.

A Coach should be able to make halftime adjustments regardless his salary! I have attended all of the home games for several years and a lot of away games to say it looks like WCU has accepted the role of not winning. If a Coach doesn’t make changes to staff and or players to be able to compete any Salary is too much!! When you have at least two touchdown scores and lose the last three games it has to bring up some hard questions! If team has enough talent to get the leads why can’t it be maintained to get a win. I think it could be because we don’t make adjustments at halftime like other teams do. I was glad to see some changes Saturday! I’m going to hope for the best and see what happens. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results!!!

I knew they played in a post season game & they were in the FCS Top 10 Rankings during last season.

And not blaming them - I think they get like $1M for the Celebration Bowl and they play during the FBS bowl season on national TV. The money and exposure really make it a no-brainer for teams who qualify for the Celebration Bowl to play in it.
I started another thread on the topic instead of dumping more stuff in the Wofford game thread. But just to show it, NC A&T's coach had a verified salary of $314,290 in 2017.
