Coaching decisions are killing us lately. And the pitching past the Franklin kid is shaky at best. When we were winning he made moves before the pitching dug a hole. Now we leave them in until they blow up and then then bring in relief guys with bases loaded with no room for error. There are some other defensive issues too but that for another time.

I thought Purus pitched pretty well today for six innings, although players seem to make hard contact on him. That said, is there maybe some secret or obscure rule/law/edict that he must throw a certain number of pitches or face a minimum number of batters? It seems as though he is always left in at least an inning too long. There might be better pitching that's just not being utilized for unknown reasons...injuries, limitations, etc. Why do the two with the lowest ERA & near lowest BAA have so few innings and appearances? Maybe there's a good reason?

Moron-duh ball .. we might as well go ahead and surrender. We are officially on track to repeat last year's performance. Good thing is of course, *Randy will fix this*.

We were 10-8 heading into this series, which is a winning percentage of .556. We have lost back-to-back conference games by 1 run to a team that is 16-5 to put us at .500. For Moranda’s career he is 319-294 which is a winning percentage of .520. I know there are questions about leaving pitchers in too long, but during the recent wins we had I saw comments about what a great coaching job he was doing (then how awful it was in the next loss). Colleges play so many baseball games it is hard to make the same kind of snap judgements that follow football where there are only 11 (sometimes 12) games. If you were OK with Moranda before last year (and NOBODY was ok with last year), a record around .500 is typical even in his good years at WCU - we have finished .500 a few times but very few where we were much above .500.
SoCon play - and particularly the SoCon tourney - is what rally matters. Losing leads in conference games are tough, but the way we hit the ball I am not ready to concede we are going to see another season like last year just yet. I have only followed along online, but does anybody think we are in for a repeat?

If you have been following me for a while, I give credit where credit is due. However, when Coach Mo screws things up, I am critical of his performance. I said at the beginning of this season I was concerned about no depth of pitching coupled with the fact that WCU would have to face most of the good SoCon teams on the road. So far, my predictions are becoming a reality. For whatever reason, Coach Mo’s has made mistakes in all the games since the Norte Dame Game. He is not the best coach WCU has had over the past 30 years. As you have stated, he has been an average coach at best. However, he has put together a good hitting team this season & his defense is a lot better than last year. For WCU to get into the NCAA Playoffs this season will require an outstanding run in the SoCon Tourney.
