So, how does this work. Let's say we win out and Chatty beats Furman and they both win out their remaining conference games.
Who wins the conference?

It's a crazy tie breaking system. They use a points scored/allowed formula to break the tie......I believe

Yep - if we all 3 finish 7-1 with all the losses between the 3 of us, it comes down to the fewest points allowed in SOCON play.

Great question and sounds very complicated. I just hope our guys come out hot against Mercer and continue to take it week by week.

What you mean is, "who wins the conference auto bid", as all three teams would be SoCon co-champions. The tie breaker is who gets the auto-bid to the NCAA, and I believe there would be 2 at-large bids (at least) if that happened.

While winning the SOCON would be great and I hope the math works in our favor, but I thought we may be about a year away from that, which is what I thought before the season started, however, I just hope the team is not too dejected and is mad they lost. We can still be co-champions but even if not we can still make the playoffs for the first time since 1983 as an at large and I belive 9-2 still gets us atleast 1 home game but I think as long as we finish 8-3, WCU will still make the playoffs,so there is still something we can acheive. Once in the playoffs, if everyone is healthy who knows how deep we can go.
I do not think losing to a highly ranked Furman (if that is all we lose to drops us out of the top 15 rankings.) And if that is the only FCS loss it certainly wont kill our playoff chances.

No, I meant who wins the conference?.....if the scenario I mentioned means there would be 3 co-champions....I think that is a great goal to be playing for as we have never been a conference champ or co-champ.

In your scenario, there would be 3 SoCon champions. All the tie breaker does is determine who goes to the tournament with the SoCon's auto bid with the tie breaker rules. The other two schools would not be guaranteed an at large bid, but if we win out, we should still be in the top ten at the end of he season, which would pretty much make us a shoe-in for an at-large bid.

As for a home game, the first round is supposedly based on sealed bids by schools who offer the NCAA money for the privilege of hosting a playoff game. So we could be 9-2, possibly even a tri-champ of the SOCON, and still be on the road depending on what we bid vs other regional schools who also make the playoffs. No guarantees even if we are higher ranked than other teams. The only guarantee to host games is to be seeded.
