Hm. Doesn’t look like they’re retiring the number You could be right, but how to you "honor" a number, unless you retire it? Leave it to Western Carolina...

Yep. And why wouldn’t you retire it? Or the others for that matter. But nowhere in the release does it say so

I don’t think it is being retired. It was just being put in the rafters…. There’s quite a bit of college stars at lots of other schools, whose numbers are not retired, but their jerseys hang in the rafters, or on the football stadiums.

Hm. Doesn’t look like they’re retiring the number You could be right, but how to you "honor" a number, unless you retire it? Leave it to Western Carolina... WCU, in my opinion, and some of the bigger time athletes all say the same thing - that WCU has never tried to honor their big accomplishments. Thinking Ronnie Carr, Michael Spicer and up until this year Kevin Martin. I think Alex, from talking to him about it about year and a half or so ago, is trying to recognize some of the past athletes who were standouts. By the way, speaking of those former athletes, if you ever get the opportunity to talk to Ronnie Carr on a very personal level I’ll call it, his story after the season of “the shot“ and going forward is quite amazing I’d put it. For someone who holds a record or accolades that can’t be broken he’s the most humble person I’ve ever talked to. Ronnie did make the comment to me when we were talking that he was doing a camp with Michael Jordan and James Worthy one time and they said “man, if you’d have hit the first 3 and went to Carolina or somewhere like that, you’d have a statue outside the stadium.”

Michael Spicer is one that feels the school has overlooked him and i tend to agree. He should be in the HOF

Michael Spicer is one that feels the school has overlooked him and i tend to agree. He should be in the HOF He does and he’s very vocal about it…I agree with him on the player accolades part but he’s also very salty that he’s never been asked to come back and coach. I don’t really have an opinion on him wanting to coach and I’m not sure why he is so adamant that he he should be considered to come back and coach.
