Did I miss something about Wes Holcombe? He's not on the football roster, and #14 is now assigned to someone else. Holcombe was a redshirt junior, did he decide not to play his final year? or did he transfer?

Did I miss something about Wes Holcombe? He's not on the football roster, and #14 is now assigned to someone else. Holcombe was a redshirt junior, did he decide not to play his final year? or did he transfer? He is a student assistant coach for the offense in his senior season. My guess is either he wants to become a coach, or something happened and he decided not to play his senior for health reasons, or his coaches told him that he would likely not play but saw some coaching potential in him, I don't know, just speculating. Really, if you look at the QBs we have this year in Tyrie Adams, A.J. Curry, Nolan Beasley, Bubba Williamson, and Will Jones he may be further on the depth chart, I doubt he would have been last, but I would say he would likely have been 3 or 4th on the depth chart. Tyrie of course is the starter, I think A.J. Curry has some raw talent and may be our future but as a true freshmen he may be redshirted (of course with the new rules he can play I think in up to 4 games though), and Nolan Beasley a redshirt junior who has had some experience for us last year. Not sure who would be the backup, but the thing with AJ Curry is he has had some experience as a wide receiver in high school, so I would not be surprised if we see him some and or if he is the #2 guy, could we see some wildcats and trick plays? However, here is an example and Holcombe at least as had some play time, but The Oklahoma Head Coach, Lincoln Riley, was originally recruited to be a QB for Texas Tech for then HC Mike Leach in the Air Raid Offense, He told the story on PirateRadio1250 when he was ECU's OC once that Mike Leach gave him a choice to remain as a QB for the team but there were others a head of him in the depth chart that he likely will never play, or he could be placed on scholarship as a student coach and be taught how to coach. Lincoln Riley took the student coaching opportunity and look where he is now at a very young age. So on Holcombe it could be something of that nature.

From what I’ve seen and heard. Will Jones will be the number 2. That’s one Fall practice into it. Tyrie is the engine that will drive this high powered offense. Had dinner with some of the OL guys last night and they told me they are going to be the 3rd biggest OL in nation this year lol. Let’s hope we can lean on them and ground away some yards this year.

Not sure ,probably correct. I asked about Wes at yesterday’s practice and saw him out there coaching up the QB’s. I’m very happy for him. He had a brutal injury with complications afterwards.

Two words concerning depth chart: Will Jones I saw Will play in High School & he is really good. If my memory is correct, he had a great Spring for the Cats.

Smack, as you know, games are won in the trenches & the Cats’ OL is BIG & Experienced. Can’t wait to see your son in action.

According to family, Wes had 3 major surgeries within the 13 month's following his injury. Even after extensive rehab, he was never able to compete nor fully recover due to nerve damage.
