Worth thinking out of the box - maybe sometimes a two back set with two speedsters able to go left or right. Spenser and Ferguson. Please forgive me Glenn for thinking outside the box with a redshirt freshman. Both these guys just need a crease and they are gone - maybe worth thinking about if the OL aren't opening large holes. Give the opponents something to have worry about. Just Saying.

I am waiting for a full back that can go out and get 1-2 yards on third or fourth down when you have to have it. I've been a Cat since 1999, and don't remember us having that big bruising back that can run downhill and get those tough yards

I think we should replace the entire offense. I mean, we only gained 577 yards and scored 38 points.
The turnovers (4 in the last 2 weeks) hurt, but the offense is doing more than enough. I know we all think we could do some things to try and slow down a little and try to control the clock to protect the defense, but hard to point fingers too much at the players in this game on O.

Who are you quoting in red? Surely someone wasn't stupid enough to make that comment?

I put it in red as total sarcasm. Quite a few posts about what we need to fix on O when we lead the league in yardage and points per game. I don't think we need to change players - I think we just need some tweaks to try for some sustained drives to help the D, and of course we need the D to play more like they did in the 2nd half. Execution and TOs cost us this game, not the players we had in the game (in my opinion).
Putting something in red frequently signifies sarcasm on message boards.

Ah hah, I get it now. Yeah, agreed. Offense is fine minus a few tweaks, but hey, we can't score on every possession.

This offense is designed to score quickly on big plays. The example of this is the first TD against Furman that took only 1 1/2 minutes. Western’s Offense can score a lot of points & build great offensive stats just like the Cats did last year. Keep in mind the Cats had great offensive stats last year and WCU finished in 4th place. With the defense the Cats have this season, the offense has got to control the time of possession & limit the opposition’s offense to a minimal number offensive plays as possible. Scoring 38 points & gaining close to 600 yards on offense is no good if your defense gives up over 40 points. I hope the Coaching Staff can come up with a game plan that reduces the number of times the defense has to run onto the field.

I disagree in part...scoring 38 points and having almost 600 yard of offense is always good...but it could have been better. It's not good to give up over 40 points, ever. I also think you always hit the home run play. If you can score on a long pass play every series, you do just that. The job of the Offense is to score. We aren't Wofford or The Citadel. It's the job of the D to get the ball back to the offense, in the form of a TO or a punt. who cares how long it takes, or doesn't take the offense to score. Our offense scoring in less than 100 seconds has nothing to do with our D giving up a 3rd and long for a first down, or a kick off returned for a TD, or bad penalties that extend drives for the other team...nothing. Do you think the furman D gave a crap that the KO return for a TD took less than 20 seconds? Do you think our D gets upset when we score quick on offense?

We did have TOP this week - 33 minutes to Furman's 27. That's not domination of the clock, but it's improving.
My take - given the scores we saw yesterday - this season is NOT over for the Cats. We can beat Samford, and pretty much the rest of the conference with the possible exception of Wofford. But we could lose most of our games if we don't clean up the penalties and turnovers. We gave away 17 - 24 points to Furman yesterday on turnovers. Two fumbles inside Furman's 10 yard line and the blocked punt. We won the battle of the stats easily but as Speir says, the Cats beat the Cats yesterday.

I’ll include The Cats coaches beat The Cats. Can’t anyone on that staff see how screwed up our special teams are? We gave up 10 points on special teams failures... Special Teams coach had 2 TD’s from his TE’s maybe just stick to that. I wake up madder then I went to bed. Anyone see how open the deepball was? It was because they were stacking the box and it took us until half to adjust. Not one of their guys could cover Patten one on one. We missed Jordan on one that would been 7. The OL had a kid that got his first start or any significant playing time. That changed in the morning walk thru? Our coaches Ego get in their own way. That’s my opinion. Remember this Players win games and Coaches lose games. At least that’s always been my mentality as a coach. So when Speir rolls out that Cats beat the Cats line I hope he is pointing the finger at himself and his staff.
