Maybe WCU could borrow El Cid's special team's coordinator for a couple weeks, J.P. Gunter. Oh, that won't work, he's never attended or worked at Hillbilly U.

Winners today - no real surprises. Well actually, the WCU offense playing well in the 1st quarter was a surprise. I thought Furman would win but it's not a real surprise Samford pulled it out. Citadel - 34 VMI - 32 ETSU - 17 Wofford - 30 Samford - 38 Furman - 25 WCU - 46 Mercer - 59 Man I was pulling for VMI to upset El Cit. I wanted the Shako to switch hands Looks like VMI almost pulled it out! I missed on ETSU I thought they might be stronger but it looks like Wofford handled them pretty good. At least that should be a good sign for us next week against ETSU.

HAHA. are you serious right now?? Most teams who score 46 points win but not Western. we gave up 59 points. That is terrible. What improvements have you seen on the D side??? We are not more competitive. We are the same crappy team the season started with. Grow? I mean we can only go up from here. We you hit rock bottom you can only go up. Mark needs to fire the S.T. coach and do something with the DC. Both areas have sucked all year. Winner? Your winner has a losing record at Western and will have a losing record this year. I would say that we all agree that we saw allot of improvement today on both sides of the ball. The team is becoming more competitive and improving. I am excited to see this team grow up this year. It is an exciting time to be a Catamount. Coach Speir is the right man for the job and is a winner. Anything bad you see on the football field is a result of 30 years of poor leadership by the administration and the loser BOT that we have. I wish we could swap our BOT with Apps BOT. Yes I am serious. Coach Speir is a good coach. Our defense is young. In all but one game, our offense scored enough points to win. Coach Wiley has been at Western about 1 and 1/2 years and it takes time. We have had 3 DCs in the last 3 years. Coach Wiley has won at every other stop so if he can't win at Western, then Western needs to look internally and not point fingers at coaches. The only problem that Western athletics has is sorry management and funding from the administration and the BOT. That is the root of the problem. We have had some decent coaches that did not win at Western. Hodges, Bleil, Briggs who won other places but when they come to Western, they lose. That is because we do not give our coaches the resources they need to win championships. The last administration cut funding to athletics every time the Catamount Club increased it's giving to keep the funding exactly the same. So all that giving more to the Catamount Club does is allow Western's leadership to cut what they give to athletics so they have more money to spend on the arts and other pet projects that cannot pay for themselves. Wake up is all I have to say. Go ahead and keep blaming Speir. That is exactly what the administration and the BOT wants you to do. It is all about funding plain and simple.

The young men played hard... Some bad breaks hurt - KO return for TD... Late hit penalty on another KO return gave them the ball near midfield... We did not tackle well at times and had some breakdowns in pass coverage...
Pulling hard for this team (players and coaches) to keep fighting... Their time is coming!

"We have had 3 DCs in the last 3 years." is not an accurate statement. This is Wiley's 2d season, so, we've had 2 DCs in the last 3 seasons. If Wiley were the defensive genius his supporters (which are quickly dwindling) claim him to be, the WCU defense would not be the worst in the FCS. Youth is not the problem, the defensive coaches, starting with their leader is the problem. Good coaches can win with youth, that's only the excuse of mediocre and poor coaches, "We are young"

A team that accomplishes this, should not lose the game this happened in.

I’m not bashing your opinion, but I want you to tell me how the BOT has prevented Wiley from succeeding with the team as you stated. In addition to, what resources does this guy need that the BOT is holding back from him?

Serious question. How much do you think the officials missed calls affected the outcome of the game? A couple of calls went against WCU which to me were totally in error, plus we had several no calls against Mercer that would have affected drives. It's hard to play the opposing team and the officials in the same game.
This entire game should be reviewed by the SoCon.
