The play selection and choice of backs used in the last five minutes were just "stupid". Hell the OC doesn't even know the capabilities of the offensive personnel. Just be predictive with Tyree running every play and the lack of speedy backs in the backfield to utilize innovative plays is a sure way not to make those 10 yards needed for 1st downs (which is how you keep the ball away from the other side). You just can't fix stupid. Yes you - OC - lost this game for WCU.

This loss is a team loss, not just the OC or offense. First, the offense scored when they needed to until the missed FG in overtime (that is more of a special teams not offense error). Not sure if WCU offense even turned the ball over, if so, maybe one time? Second, the defense tackled well, got turnovers, UNTIL they needed two stops in the 4th Q, only to rebound and get an INT in the 1st OT. Special teams did what they needed to do all day, no big runs given up, Horton for the most part kicked off the ball into the endzone or near the endzone on a rainy wet day, then sadly Horton missed a game winning FG. I personally can't point to ONE aspect that lost the game, just a series of things that added up. ETSU could be having the same conversation right now if WCU would have won the game.

GaCat - the backs used? I don't get that??? I could understand if you said the plays called, as the end of the game saw us simply have Tyrie run the ball with no reads and little for the defense to have to worry about (other than Tyrie's ridiculous running ability and average of 6.5 YPC yesterday). I assume based on a bunch of your other posts calling for the 2 RBs to be in, you think we should have maybe put Ferguson in to get his 3rd and 4th carries of the season? If we go for the 4th down it should have been Adams around the end (the previous 4th down attempt was Holloway up the middle that got snuffed). So I don't necessarily agree with the play calls on the last 2 series, but I certainly didn't have a problem with who was on the field. Side note - how hurt is Young? Our running game obviously still did fine, but he is a true weapon catching the ball out of the backfield so I hope he is OK.

He makes something everytime he touches the ball!

Depressing. It's hard to support the program when the administration refuses to partner.

Makes it even worse to hear the former voice of ASU calling the plays, David Jackson. Brings back bad memories of him being a total homer for the appy's.

Honestly, I thought these guys and Mercer last week were pretty decent. Obviously every team's announcers will have some bias, but multiple times they were complimentary, they questioned some of the calls that went ETSU's way, and for the longest time the analyst all but seemed to be saying Adams is awesome and the Cats were going to win.
Sure wish he would have been right.
If you want the definition of homer announcer - go watch another Furman game with Sam Wyche. The play-by-play guy is ok, but the former coach has a hard time getting a sentence out without saying "we" or it being heavily pro-Paladins. That is expected on their local call, but not on an ESPN broadcast.

wcugrad95, Yes I would give Ferguson carry number 3 plus many more - one of his two runs was for 20 yards and the other 0 due to no blocking. Spencer and Ferguson should get lots of carries - and not right up the damn middle - they "DO" have the speed to get outside or through a small crease if you get my drift. They are our future so play them take some to take some heat off Tyree. We need to plan for next year. That is what I am talking about the OC doesn't know the capabilities his players. So stuck in his ways - hoping Tyree will bail him out from having to make intelligent play calling! And another thing we should using Torrion Stevenson now - he was very impressive during the Samford game - but no we have to reshirt him. I believe he is a good as any defensive lineman we are playing. Maybe if the coaches really had to worry about their jobs they would venture their brains out of the proverbial box. If you want Torrion to be good next year why get him seasoned this year! It is kind of like the difference between Bobby Cox and Joe Torre - no comparison as coaches - Bobby was textbook and only won 1 World Series with all the talent he had and Joe had street smarts played with own gut - Joe had it and Bobby didn't. I will say this - we are blessed to have Tyree but too much pressure is put on him to single-handedly carry our offense. We need a lot better coaching by our OC - if you don't know that I am sorry.

I have stated multiple times I don't agree on some of the play calling - the OC will call one or two drives brilliantly, or in the ETSU game it was pretty good for over 3 quarters. Then the human nature of "lets get conservative" set in.
As for redshirts, good or bad the new rule should now allow us to use as many FR as we want to the next couple of games. I guess technically it is anybody that has never redshirted before could play in up to 4 games and still get redshirted (I assume that is true???). So given we are sitting at 3-5 I know we want to win but I'd expect we see some new faces so we have a better evaluation of guys based on game experience versus just practice.
Of course that is just me.
Also, for next year, Adams, Young, Spencer (and even Furgeson), and all of the WRs and TEs are back except Mathis. On offense our losses are up-front, but as Smack chimed-in several of those guys have seen some playing time. I actually think Young can be a very valuable guy for us, and he has shown crazy-good receiving capabilities out of the backfield (his time at WR helped). The next 3 games should be interesting given this new rule.
