Looks like next year's home scheduled will be: Gardner Webb ETSU Furman Samford Mercer Unless we pick up another game in Cullowhee, we'll again only have 5 home games. With away games at VMI, UTC, Wofford, Citadel, NCSU and Alabama.

Someone from the Pioneer League would be good.

I would actually like to see someone from the OVC instead of the Pioneer league. Lately, our out of conference scheduling has stunk! it has either been a big FBS school which beats us by 50+, or a lower tier FCS or DII school. I, for one, wish we would take an approach, much like UTC and Furman. UTC has a good rivalry with Jacksonville State, and Furman with Colgate.
We do play Eastern Kentucky in either 2020 or 2021 I believe, for a home and home series. I remember playing them several years back, and would like to rekindle that, or possibly even Austin Peay

I would like to see us get a series back with NC A&T we did a home and home with them in the 90's. Would be an excellent draw for both schools.

The sticking point is usually how hard it is to schedule a team on relatively short-notice. Both sides have to have an open spot, and as we know schedules are frequently made quite a bit in advance. That is why the EKU series is a few years out. This season found us scrambling for Newberry because of the lost game against Presbyterian. In today's world, a year away is short-notice so hopefully there are already negotiations going on for that 6th home game.
All of the above options sound reasonable/smart - creating a home-and-home is the best path, and I agree I would like to see it move away from always being somebody like Gardner-Webb or Presbyterian. But availability, costs, and even the desire to schedule a "winnable" game probably all factor in. On that note, we failed to make the playoffs in our recent 7-win seasons because we had such bad OOC games - we really needed another D1 win that simply becomes harder to come by when you schedule 1 (or 2) FBS games every year.

I agree with a lot of this. I am actually to the point where i want to see us schedule more with the Group of 5 conferences and less with the Power 5 conferences. I understand why we schedule the Power 5 games, as the money guarantee is more, but the games are typically non-competitive. A few years back, the South Florida game was great. Wish we could do those more. Much like everything else with our athletic department, our schedule seems to be driven by our budget (or lack there of). I hate the fact that we have 2 Power 5 games for 2019. If WCU wants to compete for good recruits, we've got to have 6 home games in an 11 game season, and 7 home games in a 12 game season. WCU has the best game experience in the SoCon, and we need to "sell" that better by having more home opportunites

After hearing and speaking to Randy last night at the Winston Salem social,we will have 12 games next year and 6 homes games, unfortunately it sounds like we'll have another D2 team for one of those home games.

They didn't just find out last week that 2019 would be a 12 game year, it's been known for years. Yeah, it's hard to get someone last minute, but this WAS NOT LAST MINUTE. The AD should be working this crap out 5 or more years in advance. This one, if we have to play a DII team fall squarely on the shoulders of the AD, pi$$ poor planning.
