Both seniors on punt pro have discussed with Special Teams coach the issues of the formation, one got taken off it for 2 games lol. I hope Ian is ok. My kid tossed a kid into him that jumped over the shield, by accident. Looking at the film it was not the diving kid who made the block or hit Ian. It was a guy who shot straight up the middle and didn't get touched. The op time on the punt was 1.8! Punts that fast should never be blocked.

Smack, that speaks volumes about our coaching problems. When everybody knows what the opposing coach is going to do(and even he tells you) and you refuse to adjust for that, or are too stupid to make the correct adjustments, then a coach or coaches, needs to be out of a job immediately. I was up in the area around Hot Springs last week on vacation and for a brief moment had thoughts of extending my trip for a day and driving over to catch the game. I'm glad I had better sense and did not do that. Otherwise I would have ruined a great, relaxing week watching more of the same mess.

I'm glad I had better sense and did not do that. Otherwise I would have ruined a great, relaxing week watching more of the same mess. My last trip was the Chattanooga game, and I will not go back until changes are made in Cullowhee. I don't blame the players, we have the talent to be in a serious run for the championship, but this group of coaches just can't get the job done. Leadership from the head coach is needed, but none is there. It's easy to be a leader when things are going good, however, when things are in the toilet, it's a different story, you don't keep doing the same thing, with the same folks, expecting different results. I'm tired of making the drive home pissed off because of poor coaching and poor game preparation by the coaches. What in the hell do they do all week, sit around and pat each other on the back? They certainly don't prepare their team for the game at hand. The Citadel had 5 players suspended, including their starting QB, starting RB and a starting CB. The difference, that staff was able to come up with a game plan that overcame their self-inflicted shortages and made the WCU team look like a poorly coached high school team.

I agree with everyone about the coaching talent or the lack there of. I believe these coaches are doing the best they can which leads me to believe they do not have the knowledge or talent to be Div 1 coaches. I'm also not convinced that we have that much talent as everyone thinks we do on the field. If there is that much talent then why are we out manned on the field where coaching is not involved. We have talent but not in the multitudes that most people think in my opinion.

Everybody watch this video. Both blocks are in it. The ST coordinator's job is to create 2 seconds of protection, and he can't do it.

I see our trademark four finger tackling was in top form yesterday.

You have the best punter in the SoCon and perhaps the nation. He is an asset, not a player that we need to invent some hokey formation. Why the ST coach finds it necessary to have so many wide outs, with a "line" of 3-4 players (really??), then bring one wide out in motion only to line up as another line of defense right behind a player that should be able to stop/slow an opponent long enough, then a two player shield - all the while giving the opponents the opportunity to overload the "front" line and get a clear shot up the middle to come full speed and blast through a stationary wall is beyond me. Obviously, ST coach never took physics.
Geez, he's going to get the punter killed and nearly did yesterday. Go old school and line up 7 on the line with a wide out and an up back to catch any that get through and I assure you, Ian will get the ball off and not get annihilated. It's not rocket science...or physics...

Their head coach said in his weekly conference that they were coming to block. They came to block last year. Everyone who has watched these teams play for the past 2 years knew they were going all out to block every time. The players have to play in the formation they are told, so they can't be blamed. Still, the punter was lucky to survive that game. When Ian went down, I said a little prayer. I watched him in warmups kicking the ball 60 + yards consistently. When he got hit, I had mental pictures of him getting hit last year in Charleston. The Special Teams Coach needs to be shown the exit.

I am seriously concerned for the punter's safety. As you should be. The person responsible for WCU's punt protection should be out of a job, effective tonight. A team with an All-Ameican punter, that can't protect that punter, is in awful shape. You'd think the blocking scheme would have changed after the 1st block. Jerry, do you remember my comments over the past years about this Coaching Staff. I’m glad that you & a lot of other members on this board are starting to realize that I was not smoking marijuana or that I was not crazy. I saw Coach Speir chew out a Ref & a player for committing a personal foul yesterday. However, I never once saw him chew out anyone on his Coaching Staff. Just like I said 3 years ago that Coach Speir is not a good HC & he came to Cullowhee with no credentials to be one. Most Schools that had a Football Program having 4 loosing season in the past 7 years would fire the HC. However, because he was given an unjustifiable 4 year extension to his original contract, we are stuck with him & his App State Rejects until 2020. You can be sure he will not do the honorable thing & resign.

From sitting in the stands on the west side, I totally agree with you because that is what I saw as well.
