I find it interesting how many "great weeks of practice" the coaches had with the team throughout the season, but could only produce 3 wins.

So he is just supposed to say "we have had terrible practices all year"? Maybe he should have just said "hey we are going to lose this week so we didn't practice at all"
I'm not sure what you expect him to say exactly...

My issue with him is from recruiting to after the game to after the season the way he talks we are the best team and the most prepared which both of those are far from the truth. I feel he has hyped up every team he has ever had and we have seen losing records it is hard to believe the hype coming out of his mouth anymore So he is just supposed to say "we have had terrible practices all year"? So he is just supposed to say "we have had terrible practices all year"? No. Why say we had a great week of practice each week after losing 8 straight games? Just don't say anything about how "good" that week's practices were after getting your clock cleaned. He just continues to hype the team to the Catamount fans, from pre-season to the last loss of that season, giving most fans unrealistic expectations for that year. All that hyping then comes back to bite him in the ass, with all the pissed off fans.

Every coach hypes their team as if it was the best in the business. EVERY COACH, even if it is the worst class in existence... Why? Because you are working with 17-18 year olds who you depend on to put a program together. It is being professional and it is part of the business. The coaches, players, and fans knew what the team would be after the first 5 games of the season so mentioning that the practice was good was all that they had. Working on developing the team even if you lose isn't a bad thing. But I guess it would be better to not say anything and leave pissed off alumni in the dark. These boards would instead be filled with "I can't believe he hasn't said anything" "he must answer for his crimes" or "no taxation without representation"

A coach can be positive with the team and the fans without hyping the team and giving the fans unrealistic expectations. You just want something to argue about and are grasping at straws to make Speir look more competent. Maybe for a HS team, but he's not cutting it as a Division I head coach. When you've coached a team for 7 full seasons, and you have more losing seasons than winning seasons, and your last 2 of 3 were losers, you are not, by ANY stretch of the imagination, headed in the right direction.
