I think we all know he can light it up. I thought he was a really nice guard for us.. Hunter was no fool.. Whatever his reason, certainly hope he does well for the next 3 years. Seems like there might be more going on here than we might want to know. Has anyone else heard about Catamount club function (golf) and a few of the asst. coaches making fools of themselves? Or, the possible problems with one of their best players having a few restraining orders? Can anyone clear these rumors up? Heard player and coaches thought it was funny.....Might not be anything to it...But... Which one of the players have a few restraining orders ? I have not heard anything like that . Can you explain ?

From the Asheville Citizen times:
"Josh originally signed with WCU early in his junior year of high school after being recruited by the previous staff," Michael said in an email to the Citizen Times. "He is very grateful for the opportunity he was given to play for WCU but after wrestling with this for a long time he decided it was best to transfer."

I don't blame the kid though. I think Josh realized that he was going to be role player for as long as he stayed at Western. He was the star player at Hayesville and probably thought that would continue in college. His dad made a point of saying he was recruited by the previous staff and reading between the lines, he is implying that the current staff would not give him a chance because he was not recruited by them. When you strip all the other stuff away, the kid wants to start and play 38 minutes a game. Also, that kid from Kentucky is eligible next year and he will play shooting guard which would not have helped Cottrell's minutes. He needs to find a place he can do that. He will probably end up at a D2 school. His dad played for Lenior-Rhyne so maybe he will end up there. Wherever he goes, I wish him well and I hope he finds exactly what he is looking for and has great success in college. By all indications, he is a great kid with a great future. I hate he will not be a Catamount but he can't get what he wants at Western.

I wonder if this was Josh's decision or his dad's? Didn't the same thing happen to the kid that transferred to NC State supposedly for "academics" ?

Good young man from a good family. Is a talented yet streaky shooter. If he hits the first one he'll make several. If he misses the first he's iffy. Was a bit of a defensive liability with slow feet and poor position. Hopefully he lands somewhere that he can make a very positive contribution.

Although we all have opinions about reason behind leaving, i thought he had a great freshman year. No question he is D1 and felt as if he probably did need more time this season. Maybe most efficient player we had. The coaches were a little stingey with his minutes especially compared to some of the turnover machines that played the majority of minutes. I talked with another player still on team and he even said that they thought Josh had earned more time than he received but also said that wasnt his reason for leaving. Its just never positive to lose good players out of our program. He will be fine, heard he had a lot of people interested in him already. (Question will be whether he wants to sit a year or not.)I will miss seeing him play. Hunter knew what he was doing. Jury still out on this staff.

Didn't the same thing happen to the kid that transferred to NC State supposedly for "academics" ? That would be Tucker Thompson from Huntersville; who got just what his dad wanted for him: his own NCSU uniform and a near permanent spot on the bench.
