what was that kid's name? Did he even play at all on state's team? That would be Tucker Thompson from Huntersville; who got just what his dad wanted for him: his own NCSU uniform and a near permanent spot on the bench. Yes but his dad could tell people that his son plays or played for NC State. It is amazing how much parents try and mess with their children's life and not let them make their own decisions. Riding the pine at NC State is important for some parents because it is more of a status symbol for them than saying that their kid is a starter for Western Carolina and is an all SoCon Center. I don't know know what that teaches the kid about what is important in life but his dad has to sort that out in his own mind.

He seems like a very good kid and student athlete. I don't know anything though.

Agree with FLcatamount. Something else we are missing here. Some student athletes value the relationship with their respective coaching staff. Not sure that happened here. Athletes spend alot of time with these guys and the relationship with them can make a huge difference in their experience. He wasnt recruited by these guys so the relationship would not be the same as with the guys they recruited. They would want to give the edge to the guys they recruited after making promises and building a relationship with them and their family. This can be a difficult hurdle to overcome as a freshman coming in that hasnt been given the same treatment. The kid could play. Hate he is gone.
I talked with one of the asst. coaches that recruited him throughout high school and they had plans to play him some at pt.. Also said staff had a strong relationship with him. New coaches might not know how to handle these dynamic situations as well as a veteran would. I would question the assistant coaches in this situation. Sometimes asst. coaches can play favorites to boost their recruits.. Ugly thought, but a reality. Just an opinion.

This kid knew Hunter and most of his staff were gone before he stepped foot in Cullowhee, he came anyway. Don't fault the coaches for an 18-year-olds decisions (or his fathers'). He would have been released prior to comeing to Cullowhee if he had asked, it's pretty standard now when the coach that recruited you departs the institution. I wish him well, seemed like a good kid, but not a program maker or breaker at the D1 level. Yes he scored a lot of points in high school, but that does not always translate over to the DI College game with the major changes in the talented players you are now facing vs. the talent you faced playing in a high school with 400 students, playing in a 1-A conference.

AND......Perhaps the incoming players and others at his position are simply better players than he is and he is smart enough to realize that, as a sophmore, he might not get the playing time that HE thinks he should receive?? Sometimes, players think they deserve to play because they are already in the program. Just as Seventh Woods decided at UNC this season? He knew, and understood that his playing time would be very limited given the talent level on the team this year. Perhaps, Josh has made the same evaluation and determined that his future would be better for HIM playing at another school?
I saw EVERY home game that WCU played this year and traveled in person to 6 away games as well. I watched the others on TV/Internet. I will not get into an assessment of Josh's abilities, I am not his coach and I am not at practice every day so for me to do so would just be conjecture and opinion. I will, however offer my assessment of Coach Prosser and his staff (as I was a high school basketball coach for 19 years).
WCU basketball is in excellent hands with Coach Prosser and his staff! Basketball pedigree is outstanding, as well as his knowledge of the modern game. His bench coaching is also outstanding, and he is very astute with the psyche of the modern college player. He cultivates relationships with his players and their families and he is very accessible to his players and to the fans of the program. He is an ambassador of the basketball program that we as fans of WCU basketball can be most proud of indeed. His staff also reflects these same traits as well. Coach Prosser also maintains the coach player relationship as well and will hold any player accountable for his character, work ethic, academic success, and performance.
So, to sum up my point. Sometimes things just do not work out for players (and coaches) the way they had hoped. Coaches and their staff change and sometimes this creates a realization from a player that they may not fit the same in the new system as they did the old system. New players are recruited into the program and sometimes the new players are better and more talented than the ones already there. Coaches ALWAYS do what they thing is needed to WIN games and promote their program. That means playing the best players all of the time.
I wish Josh well in his transfer and with his future, He is an outstanding young man and a talented basketball player and student. I have no doubt that he will find a school and a program to which his talents and abilities will fit well and fill a needed void. I will miss him in a WCU uniform as he has represented our University very well during his time in Cullowhee. Josh has made a decision that he feels is best for HIM and in the end that is always the right thing to do. Good luck to Josh and his family, I am sure we will hear his name again in the world of college basketball soon.

Interesting insight. And so soon.. You must be very close to the head coach. Interesting indeed.

Interesting insight. And so soon.. You must be very close to the head coach. Interesting indeed. I think Coach Prosser has done a good job so far considering that this is his first year. He also has recruited OK for the first year. All these accolades are just talk until he puts up a 20 or 25 win plus season or two. His post say it is coming. I have been around the dismal WCU athletics long enough to make me be from Missouri. Truecatfan83 said some nice things but if he does not win, none of it is true. I don't care about how good a coach he is unless we see results on the floor.

Why the different attitudes between the two - or is Prosser not in your family tree like Speir? We never seen the results out of Speir that you demand out of Prosser, a guy only in his second year.
