That's a high bar, as any team that's willing to pay the entry fee for the CIT or CBI can play in either of those tournaments. Yes and ... No seriously, WCU does not get the respect of the Major conferences or even some of the mid-majors. It does not matter if WCU had went undefeated in the regular season, made it all the way to SoCon tournament and lost in triple OT, they still would not have gotten an NCAA bid just because the NCAA will not give but the automatic qualifer an NCAA bid. We may be a top 4 or 5 team in basketball this year, but again we could still only lose 2 SoCon games (5 total for the year during the regular season) and still the same scenario. Think of Davidson back in the Stephen Curry days. If we somehow win the regular season and lose in the tournament at least we get an NIT bid but that too probably is not good enough for you. Chances are we will finish somewhere in the top 4 or 5. Chances are this team is going to finish above .500, and if they were in the SEC, ACC, AAC, Big East, etc, there is a good chance WCU would either get an at large in the NCAA or at least at minimum in the NIT. Unfortunately, WCU does not have that opportunity, so what is the shame in giving the students more play time and enjoy a tournament of somewhat regardless of whether its the CBI or CIT. Going somewhere is better then going nowhere. Maybe you would be ashamed but I bet if WCU went to either and hosted and especially if they were good enough to get deep. The Ramsey will be packed (maybe not sold out but packed). What is the shame in it for these kids and Prosser, especially for someone like Carlos Dotson? If they have the opportunity, the seniors deserve it? Heck maybe they could win the whole thing of either the CIT or CBI and so what if its not the NCAA tournament (or even the NIT) , I don't think its a shame to hang one of those banners in the Ramsey Center. Also, lots of mid-major schools will use that to propel themselves to be better the next year and achieve the bigger prize. I still hope we win the SoCon Tournament and get in the NCAA or at the least are good enough to get an NIT bid but chances of that happening unless we win the tournament or the regular season is not great even if we have 20 wins after the regular season and conference tournaments are finished. So now bar isn't low, but you would probably be against going to the NIT too (you probably consider it the Not Invited Tournament, that is only true for ACC like teams like those Tarholes). You are not given respect because you have to earn it. You earn it by beating good teams outside the Conference & by defeating all Conference Members. Western does not have a tradition of accomplishing the above objectives.

Etsu is better yall . I mean Etsu gets raves from espn game day crew for goodness sake Western will win 20 games and be very respectable Got better recruits coming in next year Its all good I have looked at prospects for next year & I see no big guys on the recruiting list that will replace the loss of Dotson or Sled. It is hard to compete when your players are midgets as compared to your competitors. Have you watched cork play? He’s going to be an animal. My biggest concern is he leaves and transfers to a bigger school. He’s bigger and more athletic than Dotson. We will be better next year than we are this year. Sled doesn’t even get playing time unless there’s an injury or foul trouble. If you’re gonna spread negativity at least spread informed negativity.

Young man I comment on this Board W or L. If you go back to the very first post on this subject, you’ll find I spelled out my concerns before the game was played. I never expected the Cats to Win for ETSU is the class of the Conference & WCU is not in their league. They recruit better than anyone in the SoCon. All you had to do was compare rosters, look at the size of players & the depth which I spelled out completely. I try to deal in reality & not deal in optimism or pessimism. The Cats will be a 5 or 6 seed team in the Conference if they don’t fall apart after these two defeats. Old man (I only call you that because you called me young) I read where you said that we didn’t match up well with ETSU and you were right. I had what you said on that 35 minute drive over the mountain in the back of my mind hoping you were wrong but you were right. You’re probably right about our seed but I’ll hope for a 2 or 3. Call it dumb youthful enthusiasm if you want. You are right, I am an old man. Anyone that graduated from WCU in 2008 is a Young Man to me. I graduated from WCU in 1968 so 2008 is very young to me.

I’m more concerned about depth at the Center Position with the departure of Dotson & Sled. My concerns rest with the lack of Big Men on the Recruiting List & Signed Recruits. The number 2 guard needs to be at least 6’5” & the Forwards need to be 6’7”. The Center needs to be 6’9”or better. The kid that broke his foot needs to be a Forward & Cork at Center. Therefore it is paramount that Prosser needs to bring a couple of good size backup centers.

I will agree ETSU is better, they have become what I would say the College of Charleston once was to the SoCon, I would say Wofford is the new Davidson but not necessarily since Mike Young has left, but yes while Forbes is at ETSU they will be the face of the conference more times then not. But I trust Prosser, and just because we have no bigs yet, its easier to microwave and find big guys quickly than big lineman or defensive backs in football. All Prosser needs to do is find a quick JUCO or a transfer portal player than can make an immediate contribution.

The Socon doesn’t get prolific big men. If a kid is 7’ tall and has any ability whatsoever he should be playing big time college basketball. With the exception of ETSU I typically don’t bat an eye at a 7 footer in the Socon because they typically can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. I’m pretty sure VMI has a 7 footer that averages around 4 pts a game

I wonder how he is really getting those players, hmm???

Ok true, we have not earned the respect, but back in the day Davidson had and they still did not get a NCAA invite when they had Stephen Curry that time when they got eliminated in the SoCon Tournament, By that time Davidson had a long history of upset and the year before made the Elite 8. Its the conference, I will say this again, if WCU had been undefeated throughout the regular season (beating Georgia, Florida State and Xavier) and had we lost in the SoCon championship, WCU would still not be invited to the NCAA, NIT I would be certain at that point but nothing better. Its the conference, not just the team. So I will say again, if we make a tournament, be happy and enjoy it not an Eeyore about it.

not familiar with what you are talking about. What happened with him at UT? The Socon doesn’t get prolific big men.
