I am a Catamount fan and very happy with the progress this team has made this year and I am glad that coach Prosser is our coach. He has done a phenomenal job in the short time he has been at Western. We are way ahead of where I thought we would be at this point. The only problem we have is this coaching staff has raised the bar and raised our expectations so that we now complain when we lose. We will be fine and we are much better than we were last year. If we do not win another game, we are still much improved.
GO CATS!!!

I just think we need to look at ETSU & ask ourselves a simple question, why are they better than WCU? Then, through the Recruiting Process, bring in the players needed to win a Conference Championship. As much as I do not like this, since Dotson is injured it might be necessary to take Ahmir Langlais off the Red Shirt List if he is able to play.

ETSU's roster has seven (7) transfers. WCU is not attractive to JUCOs which ETSU lives off of. Near the ETSU campus in Johnson City, there has to be 20...maybe 30...night spots that cater to college kids. ETSU is located in a large urban area with a couple hundred thousand people in the TriCity area (Johnson City, Bristol, Kingsport). ETSU has a very strong fan base...used to put 10,000 regularly in the Mini Dome and now sells out 5,500 seats in downtown Johnson City. WCU cannot compete with what they have to offer when it comes to basketball recruiting and most likely most of the other sports.

Retired Cat, I lived in Johnson City for 23 years and you are not telling me anything that I’m not aware of about JC. My boys went to Science Hill High School. One was a Starting QB & the other was an Offensive Lineman for SH. If you take your logic as stated, Clemson was too small to be in the ACC & was located in a very rural area of SC. I also know how isolated Clemson was when I played against them as a Catamount. Now, Clemson has a lot more students & the surrounding area has grown with this increased enrollment. As WCU increases its enrollment, the surrounding area will grow to accommodate the student population. One of the main reasons that ETSU can bring in the recruits is the fact that the State of Tennessee supplements their Athletic Budget. I think that helps to provide the extra funds needed for recruiting in Basketball & Football. I also played against App State & Boone was not a thriving metropolis. App State & Clemson are perfect examples that put a dent in your logic. I think we all know the history of those two institutions. I guess we need to stop using Western’s location as a crutch when it comes to Wins & losses. When you are a very good Coach, the player will come.

In my opinion, I see no reason to take Langlais off the Red Shirt list. We will probably not win the conference this year with Langlais playing so why waste the kids redshirt for 10 or 12 games. This is a process to rebuild the program and there will be some wins and some losses. In my opinion, we need to relax and enjoy the ride this year. We will have a winning record this year for the first time in a long time. That is huge and will help coach to continue recruiting better players. I am very happy where the basketball program is and is headed compared to where we have been. We will win some more and we will lose some more and that is ok.

What bothers me about next year is we will have no depth at the Center Position. When Dotson & Sled are gone, who will backup Cork at Center. There is nobody on the Recruiting List that can come in and be a backup for Cork. You’ll win nothing if you don’t have size and depth at the Center Position. I have read that Ahmir is 6’7” & some articles have him listed as 6’9”.

Ii really like reading what everybody says after each game. I have nothing to say negative about this team or staff or the way they played in this win or that loss. If you evaluate the talent this new staff has brought to WCU it is easy to see that we have a different caliber of athlete this year, that is this staff making the Cats better. I am excited about the success this team has had this year but in my opinion this is just the beginning. I don’t care where The Cats finish this year I trust this staff and these players. All I know is that for the first year in all the years I have had season tickets when I walk into the RAC i feel like the Cats will be competitive with anybody. It may not be this year heck it may not be next year but with this staff and these athletes the rest of the SoCon should be put on notice : THE CATS ARE COMING!!!!!!!!

Fantastic point that is often overlooked or argued about by people who don’t know. The state of TN gives big money directly to athletics to supplement scholarships etc. Any school in Tennessee will be much farther ahead that schools in surrounding states.
