I hope all the kids we are getting from D2 can play at the FCS level. I know the coaches are trying to get players that fit their system. I think D2 is allowed 25 scholarships so maybe most of these guys can play FCS but there is a reason that no FCS team offered them. Size, speed, grades? I hope these coaches understand the kind of talent they need to be successful in the SoCon. With all that said, Bob Waters was famous for recruiting very good undersized receivers that others did not recruit and many of those guys were all conference. Not comparing these coaches to Bob Waters. They have a lot to prove on the field. You seem to forget or overlook that Bell successfully recruited at Jacksonville. Isn't that a FCS school. I am optimistic that our transfers are players that were the exceptional players at the D2 level. Give these new coaches a chance!

They certainly know more than me. I do not expect instant success. They are getting a late start this year. It might be year 3 or 4 before we see any turn around. If that QB from FL was taller, he would have gone FBS. Might be the next Doug Flutie. Who knows?

He's still growing! I watched his highlights and he reminded me of Fran Tarkenton in many ways. This young man might grown another couple inches. He has potential!

I have some of the same concern as FLCAT on this. Bringing guys in who have already proven they can play and have experience in the system (i.e. Wells) is different than offering scholarships to guys who only had offers from a D-II school or who are coming from other programs that are at (or below) the same level as Western and don't have any real experience or college stats. Again, I am not saying this kid couldn't go on and be the absolute greatest FCS player in the history of the world, or that some of the other guys we have taken from the portal won't be excellent players. The thing to note here is that Tusculum was invested in bringing him in, and that means our new OC was the one driving that. So Kade Bell wanted him there, and now wants him here.
This staff is operating under unbelievable circumstances given they didn't have the luxury of Spring ball to properly identify what they need for their schemes. We are all optimistic, but we have to understand in the history of football some recruits surprise (some in good and some in bad ways). If the coaches want the guys they are bringing in, we have to accept they are trusting these kids to help the program succeed. Based on all the interviews, Kerwin Bell isn't here to just be competitive - he is here to win.

D2 programs are allowed 36 scholarships...split up as desired.

I have no idea why all the expert coaches we have posting on this board didn't step up and assist Coach Speir during his nine seasons, I'm sure we would not be in the current situation if you guys would have stepped forward and helped him out.
I'm so glad some of you guys are now stepping up and telling the new staff how to coach.

Western Fan, Talk about passive aggressive linguistics- what specifically is the burr under your saddle? For 9 years some folks complained about Spier, now others are complaining about the new coaches before they even coach a game. That's the burr under my saddle.
