With WCU players entering the portal, given we only have a small amount of time for these coaches to install brand new schemes and get the team ready, it only makes sense that if we do have scholarships available that our coaches would gravitate towards replacing players with guys they have relationships with and who can get "ready" faster than somebody with no familiarity. Put yourself in their shoes - when I have left a job it is often to another place where I know somebody, and if I have a job that I am hiring for I often reach out to my contacts or former co-workers that I know their capabilities and I trust. If we have roster spots available from WCU players entering the portal, why would we not go after kids with 2 or 3 years experience in the new system? Same thing with kids leaving WCU - they are going somewhere that they at least think is better for them and there is probably some kind of relationship with where they are going (a coach they knew, maybe they were recruited from that school previously, etc.).
This has always been the way with coaches filling out their coaching staff, and with how the whole transfer portal and not having to sit out a year has changed the landscape this is how things will work with players until the NCAA steps in (which will probably not happen).

It would be a shame if scholarship players are being cut loose this late in the recruiting cycle, but there's also a difference between being told to leave and being told you don't have much chance of playing.

I might be wrong, but is Cade a scholarship athlete or is he a preferred walk on? I don't know, but if he is not on scholarship, and likes going to school at WCU, he can just stay as a student.
He seems to be a very nice young man, and I wish him the best in whatever he and his family decides would be best for him to do.
GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have had so many changes, I can't remember if we still have Kason Lincke and/or Carlos Davis on the roster for QB. I can't pull up the 2021 Preseason Roster on the website as it defaults to "National Signing Day Roster" when I select pre-season.

He'll never play a down as QB as a Cal Bear. Do you seriously think Cal wants him as a QB, with a 1-8 record from an FCS school? Get real.
