Many Catamount fans did not like the fact that an "outsider" (no prior connection to WCU baseball) was chosen back in 2007.
Despite the fact that BMo did not duplicate (much less, exceed) the accomplishments of 4 predecessors, his embrace of previous accomplishments and outreach to former Catamounts bought a lot of goodwill. He demonstrated his loyalty to the program in many ways and pretty much became an "insider" in the minds of most of the Catamount Faithful over the past 15 years.
But a mentality still remains that someone with direct connection to previous success needs to be selected. A similar mentality existed with Alabama football after Bear Bryant retired and subsequently died. That mentality was only shelved by someone like Nick Saban who arrived at Bama with a national championship already on his resume. FACT: There are at least 3 or 4 former WCU players from very successful WCU teams out there with solid coaching credentials. I have no idea if any of them will put their hat into the ring or not.
But if any of them do...
how can the Administration (wherever located - Chancellor's office or AD office) justify hiring anyone other than one with WCU connection?
Hint: That was/is a rhetorical question.

The new coach needs to be a Western guy to repair the damage that Moranda did with the baseball alumni. Killed all the connection with former players.
