I sure would put it on the Coaches because I saw no adjustments on the defensive side of the ball after the first half. On offense we continued to throw the ball & our QB continued to be under pressure & had very little time to pass the ball. This team is highly over ranked & the Coaches Poll had us at 14. Shucks, after Saturday’s game we may be pushed into the twenties or in the teams mentioned category. Our defense is too sorry for us to be ranked. I have said this for years on this board, defense wins conference championships & passing sells tickets. Until Kerwin Bell understands that he needs to put a lot more emphasis on the defensive side of the ball when recruiting. The Saturday game was a perfect example of the team with the best defense won. Furman has an outstanding Head Coach & he knows how to milk the clock & increase the time of possession stat. The Catamount Game Plan seemed to be terrible against Furman. I understand your point about needing to do more on the defensive side having given up 79 pts in two games. If their defense was pushing our O line aound so bad, I wonder would the running game have been any more successful judging by what you saw? It makes sense to not abandon the run and give the defense nothing else to worry about but the pass. Did it appear to you that we concentrated more on the passing game as the game plan or was it a case of not being able to run against them and needing to pass? I totally agree with your statement.

If we played Furman 10 times they'd beat us 7 out of 10. They are bigger, stronger and more disciplined. It's not our time to win the SoCon. But we can refocus and qualify for the playoffs.

Furman is better than us and that is where it ends.

Furman is better than us and that is where it ends. If we get by Mercer and win out, we will see them again if we win the first round game in the playoffs, we will see them again in the second round. Probably be a home game for Furman. That’s a lot of ifs but we may play them again and we will see if they can beat us again. If we are at full strength, who knows what will happen.

Rewatching the game for a 2nd time. What a huge miss it was on the pass to David White on the first series. He was open and if we score and take the lead right off the bat I expect Cole and the offense would have been much more settled. Cole had more time than it sounded like listening to the radio call, but he was just antsy especially early on. Then we had this no call where we could have pulled within 20-14 (or at worst 20-10) after the PI had it been called: After that we held Furman and then scored, so we could have been either up 21-20 or at worst it would have been 20-17 FU at the half. Then of course the INT at the 1-yard line late in the 3rd quarter killed us regardless of any of these earlier things. Through the last 5 games, WCU made those plays (or calls went our way). Furman did all the things they needed to do to win - run the football, control the clock, pressure our offense, etc. But watching this game a couple of times now this seems like it was closer than it even "felt" as I was listening to it on Saturday. As I mentioned in another post, the drives where we ran the football we were pretty darn successful. The second half saw FU outscore us 9-3, with 6 of that coming on the missed tackle and long run by Huff at the end. Furman clearly deserved to win the game, but it was a game WCU could have still stolen with just a few of these plays.

On our next set of downs, I do think there was a makeup call. The PI call was we were the beneficiary of was not as egregious as the one you reference. I agree that we had our chances and if we had scored on that first drive it may have been a different game.
