This is going to be a LONG 2 weeks. I can't decide if it is going to be nice to sit back and watch the other SOCON teams battling it out knowing we are resting up and preparing, or if I will be lost on Saturday not having WCU on my big TV and several other games going on my laptop while also following the thread here, on the board of whoever we are playing, and AGS. Guess I need more TVs and laptops  For the FU game - as mentioned in some other threads, yes Citadel did better against Furman than they have against pretty much any other team. But that game was still 28-0 midway through the 3rd quarter. That is also a major rivalry game for the Bellhops. And while I am not sure if Citadel will win a game, they are getting better. All that being said, I am extremly interested in the Furman @ Samford game. It is clear UTC and WCU are good football teams, but it is looking like Samford is starting to play better and I think they might be able to give the Paladins and Mercer all they want. Having Furman play Samford and then us in back-to-back weeks on the road is good for Western. Biggest concern I have is the Cats possibly being a little rusty coming off the bye. But I'll trust Kerwin Bell to keep the fire lit. And we are a much better team at home! |

We beat Chattanooga, the second best team in the SoCon behind Western Carolina. Furman is good and Mercer cannot be overlooked but we should win those games. Coach has this team focused and they are taking one game at a time. We will score enough points to win all of the rest of our games if we prepare and protect the football. If Desmond is hurt and cannot play that could be a factor but we have 2 and maybe 3 other backs behind him that would start at any other SoCon team. Desmond is the best RB in FCS and would star for many FBS schools. He is the best player on the field in every game except for Arkansas. Keep the faith. We will win all the rest.

So something I have been battling with since yesterday. Who is better Furman or UTC? I have looked at the stats comparing both. I think UTC has the better QB but the UTC backs did not produce how I thought they would especially Ford. I think the Furman backs might be better that UTC. What is everyones thoughts regarding the two teams?

What is everyones thoughts regarding the two teams? I think Furman has a better run game than UTC. Chattanooga smoked us in the air because of our secondary. WCU has a better run defense. So we really need to make Furman throw the ball and hopefully we can come up with some interceptions and let our offense score faster. |

I will say I think the stadium is going to be PACKED with students. The overall feel around the campus is overwhelming excitement and people are starting to believe that we can actually win the SoCon for the first time! I think it’s going to be an amazing atmosphere definitely don’t want to miss it!

Our students will be on fall break the week of the Furman game. Some will come back early, but I anticipate the three student sections will not be half full.

That is why I don't think we will crack 10k in a very huge game. We need the students to show up and show out but most will not return for a football game but I could be surprised |
