I think Curry only played 3 seasons at Davidson, before turning pro. Yeah, sounds right. I remember willing him in my thoughts to go pro, lol.

He has had 8 YEARS to turn this around - that is two entire 4 year recruiting classes. What makes you think he can do it now? Eaton promised a better department, a more competitive one, I cannot stand to continue to accept being average. Hunter had his try, now bring in someone new.

But you still have not said anything about where the money is going to come from for a new staff...

After watching Davidson dismantle CoC, it made we wonder what our team would be like if we ran any sort of offense other than walk the ball up the court, no movement with any of the players except the ball handler, and make a lob pass to the post. Almost EVERY Davidson player is moving during each offensive set. They are setting screens for each other, making flex cuts off of staggered screens, and will ALWAYS exploit a mismatch in the post (not just posting their big man up). I thought Hunter was the one credited with putting the Princeton like offense in at NC State? Why can't we run sets where there are multiple back door cut options, screening & ball movement away from the ball. The only screens we make are screens to get our wings open, but they are used to post up King. It's Time....

Didn't we go into 3OT last year against Davidson at the championship and lost by 2 points?

Oh yeah, we did go into OT with Davidson last year and lost. You know I forgot that we accept losing at Western, and just under .500 records. I can't wait until we are at .500 next year too!! Maybe we can hang around and have at least one win over .500 - that would be better than making it to the NCAA tournament. Seriously, if we continue to accept being average and continue to say "wait until next year", nothing will ever change. I am glad that I have my graduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill because at least they play to win.

Just two observations. As long as Davidson & CoC are in the conference, we'll never compete on a regular basis. (Don't let the door hit ya ...) Those two put all of the resources into basketball and there is no way for the the other Southern Conference schools to compete on a regular basis. It'd be nice if we beat Appalachain, Wofford, UNCG, & Elon.
But that brings up point #2. WCU struggles to recruit because we're way out in the boonies. (Football too.) We can all deny it, claim that everybody ought to love it as much as we do, but reality is that kids and their parents, often settle for WCU when other options are unavailable. It's not first choice because it's just too far away from wherever.
Reality is that we've won ONE Southern Conference basketball championship (Thank you Anquell), and ZERO football championships. Ever!
Keep the coach or fire the coach, the above two opinions point to facts that just don't seem to ever change.
I love WCU and I bleed purple. I dream the dreams, and accept the realities.

This is why Cullowhee needs to grow into a college town. It will not change where WCU is located, but it can help the students from feeling isolated. With the right sort of community growing around the university, Cullowhee could become a destination that kids want to come to.

While reading this thread I was going to mention recruiting. I have spoke to several athletes and coaches who say recruiting is difficult not because of location (GSMP is the most visited national park among other things that make this a great place to be) Look at Old Cullowhee, talk about an embarresment! that whole area is crumbling down and no one seems to care. Looks like a scene from Madmax or something. Student Landlords renting out apts that should be condemned, no viable business that students would want, coffee shops, dance clubs etc. I promise if Cullowhee were revitalized and not a dumping ground for abandoned vehicles and single wides we would see improvement in all areas of WCU recruiting as well as economic improvement, increased tourism, fols from outlying areas more apt to come in and take in a game along with diner etc. I know a quite a few students, teachers staff etc and most of them beat feet outta town every weekend. Change the coach and I promise you the same similar mediocre results
