While reading this thread I was going to mention recruiting. I have spoke to several athletes and coaches who say recruiting is difficult not because of location (GSMP is the most visited national park among other things that make this a great place to be) Look at Old Cullowhee, talk about an embarresment! that whole area is crumbling down and no one seems to care. Looks like a scene from Madmax or something. Student Landlords renting out apts that should be condemned, no viable business that students would want, coffee shops, dance clubs etc. I promise if Cullowhee were revitalized and not a dumping ground for abandoned vehicles and single wides we would see improvement in all areas of WCU recruiting as well as economic improvement, increased tourism, fols from outlying areas more apt to come in and take in a game along with diner etc. I know a quite a few students, teachers staff etc and most of them beat feet outta town every weekend. Change the coach and I promise you the same similar mediocre results I could not agree more!

By no means do I compare UCLA to WCU, but Howland was just fired at UCLA. Howland finished UCLA with a career record of 233-107. He won four conference titles in the past eight years and took the Bruins to the Final Four in three consecutive seasons from 2006-08. We have a coach who has been here for 8 years and has a losing record overall and in the conference. No NCAA bids, no Conference Championships.... and people wonder why our athletic programs suck. If you accept losing, you will never have success. Time to change both coaches. I know it will not happen...
