My Coach was a former Major League Baseball Pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His name was Ron Blackburn. He was my coach all 4 years that I played for the Cats. Sorry that I didn't make the Baseball Celebration. I had a conflict that I could not change. I don't believe Blackburn was the WCU coach but 4 or 5 years. He took over for Jim Gudger. Darned if you aren't about as old as I am. You would have played with Cecil Caldwell, Roddy Edwards, Sonny Hollifield and Glenn Ivie. They were classmates of mine. I have run into Glenn a couple of times in the past 8-10 years. Maybe seen Cecil once in the past 50 years. Nada on Roddy and Sonny. So you live in the Conway-MB area? Look forward to meeting you on Friday in MB. I'll be sitting in the vicinity of the Catamount dugout... wherever that turns out to be. I'm in my 70's and my friend who'll be with me is in his 80's. We should not be hard to spot. Go Cats! Cecil, Roddy, Sonny, and Glenn were teammates of mine. They were great Catamounts and it was my honor to have been on the same team with them. I forgot that I did play 2 games with Coach Jim Gudger as my Coach. It was the 1st two games my Freshman year against App State. Glenn started the 1st game of a double hitter & he got into a little trouble in the 4th or 5th inning of the game with the game tied. Coach Gudger put me in the game with the bases loaded. I was able to get out of the inning and keep the game tied. My team scored some runs for me & I was able to hold on to defeat App State. It was cold at App State that day and Coach Gudger ask me to start the 2nd Game because I was warmed up. He told me if I got in trouble he would have relief ready for me. I wound up pitching the entire 2nd game and again my great team got me runs to beat App State. My first College Experience as a Catamount Pitcher resulted in 2 wins for me in the same day and against a team that I would enjoy beating for the rest of my playing days as a Catamount. |

Weather forecast looks very good... No rain. Hi temp Friday to be 60. Hi Saturday to be 65. Hi Sunday to be 70.

Our track record for weekends in more favorable climates during the first couple of weeks of the seasons has not been particularly good since Coach Mo has been with us.
2008 Baseball at the Beach Won 1; Lost 3
2009 California Won 2; Lost 2 (two wins were over Southern Cal) Good trip.
2012 Greenville NC Won 0; Lost 3
2013 Greenville SC Won 0; Lost 3
2015 Wilmington, NC Won 1; Lost 2
2016 Wilmington, NC Won 0; Lost 3
Gotta do better this year! We need to come out no worse than 2-1
