I heard Reid might not be playing till the playoffs assuming we make it and don't fall asleep at the wheel . All the talk about how Adams could be a starter anywhere else is going to need to show starting this week. If Adams does not step up into that role we will be in trouble Adams played pretty well Saturday against the conference's best run defense. Desmond tweeted today "I'm out for a while but I'll be good."

I hope everyone understands that if we don't beat Mercer there will be no playoffs for us....We will not get a playoff bid at 8-3....Chances are if we lose to Mercer we will have Furman, Chattanooga, and Mercer ahead of us....The tie breakers and what ifs no matter if we let Mercer come into Cullowhee and beat us.....The ONLY thing this coaching staff needs to be doing this week is putting a game plan together to beat MERCER and have them better prepared than we were for Furman.....I understand not having Reid hurt but there is not a damn thing we can do about.....That's football and every team has to deal with.....Our O-L and D-L need to show up this week so Cole isn't rushed all day and Coach Bell needs to make it clear we need the defense to get Mercer off the field so our offense can go to work.....When I left the game Saturday I was upset as hell with our performance after driving 10 Hours to Cullowhee to watch that crap....I have had time to settle down and still have faith in this team but mark my word: If we play against Mercer like we did Furman we will not win....Mercer has started to peak at the right time.....Sorry I had to get this off my chest.....

We need to get Adams going in this game. I felt we abandoned the run from the get go against Furman and that really hurt our balance. It seemed like we were having success when Branson got the ball but he only ended up with 13 carries. Obviously the defense struggled but we have to do a better job keeping our offense on the field, get points, and not gift Mercer multiple short fields with turnovers on downs. I am looking forward to this Saturday!

I agree 2020. I went back and looked at the drive charts we had. In the 2 drives where we were more balanced, guess what - 2 TDs. In a 3rd drive where it wasn't simply all passing, guess what - we got to the 9 yard line and threw a forced INT at the 1 yard line. As bad as everything went, we could have been ahead 21-20 with 3 mins left in the 3rd quarter. Not scoring AND turning the ball over there was a huge momentum shift that could have been huge our way had we scored.
All the coulda/shoulda/woulda is over with from the Furman game. We were the #1 rushing offense going into the Furman game and we ran it 24 times. We need to establish that we can and will run the ball much closer to 50/50 to keep Mercer's very good front-seven honest. That gives Cole more time, allows our very good WRs to get open, and makes everything better. If we abandon the run against Mercer we could see a replay of this past Saturday.

Just my opinion, we don't need to rely on Adams to carry the load for us until Reid is back. We have a lot of athletes on that side of the ball who need to be utilized more. We had opportunities to do this on Saturday by calling pass plays over the middle to our TE's and slot receivers when Furman was bringing pressure. We had a few drives where we did this and it was working but we never stuck with it. Instead we were sending our receivers on long developing routes when Cole didn't have time to get the ball out. I understand our offense is run and gun and we rely heavily on the big play(s) but our coaches need to adjust and take what the defense gives us especially for a young QB who isn't used to being under pressure. If they can do this, it will open up our run game and let Adams get out in space where he can use his quickness to make big plays.
I know the loss to furman was disappointing but there is a lot this team can learn from to improve and capitalize on moving forward. We have a great team, with great coaches. I just hope we don't let the loss weigh on us and ruin our chances at having a great season. There's still a lot of football left to be played and anything can happen especially in the SOCON.

I could not agree more. Despite trying to temper my enthusiasm for this years team, I felt myself being pulled back in like a lot of others in spite of my intentions. We have been starving and suffering, waiting for a successful team for so long and now it has seemed to be happening so it's hard not to get caried away. It's a little easier to pull back again a bit after the Furman game. I hope lessons were learned and we show up ready to play with a good plan to beat a good Mercer team. I started debating about making the 7 hour or so round trip drive this week after last weekend's game and will be as upset as you if we play that way against Mercer after driving all that way.

It's interesting how we went from 1st to 3d overnight with one loss...

Man it’s great to keep talking playoffs but let’s worry about Mercer. I mean, we are going to get everyone’s best each week and we better not take anyone lightly and we have to figure out how to keep the run game going to open up the passing game. Reid, according to his twitter, will be out for a while so we have to have Adams or anyone else step up! Get this win this week and see what happens. Homecoming is such a trap game when it is a conference game.
I do think Chatty will beat furman although I say chatty RB had been playing with a torn ACL for three games and is now shut down for the year, so we will see.
