Definitely my least favorite current SoCon school (and not just football-wise) No doubt that their superior attidude their fans have about football, basketball, as well as academics, contributes to everyone in the SoCon having similar feelings about the Paladins. Their play on the football field (as pointed out by many posters - and has been happening for years since Hendrix has been the HC) contributes as well. That "FU - All the time" is typical of their attitude.

Looking at Mercer's games, they have been an oddity versus what they traditionally have tried to do. They have been espeically ineffectie running the football the last 3 weeks (they had 71 yards/1.78 YPC against ETSU, 0 yards/0 YPC against UTC, and 100 yards/2.7 YPC against Wofford). But they had 299 rushing yards against VMI - who I actually thought had a comparable defense to at least Wofford and ETSU??? Their QB is pretty good and can run and throw - but he is not as good as Huff nor is he a thrower like Samford or UTC's QBs. They have two really good WRs, so if we can control their running game we will still have a challenge on the back-end. All that said, other than the VMI game where they ran the ball really well, they have not been particularly explosive on offense.
As expected, they have been very stingy on defense. They really tightened down when they needed to against UTC and held them to 1 TD and 5 FGs. They gave up 38 to Furman, but two of those TDs came on short fields (one was an early TD where Mercer gave Furman the ball on the 13 yard line). Even in the FU game Mercer only gave up a total of 387 yards. So they are a very good unit.
FL is on the money - we are going to need to be able to run the football no matter who is back there. We have Adams, but we also have highly regarded true FR Townsend (can still play in 1 game and retain his Redshirt), as well as Camury Reid and Corey Reddick. And I know Bob brought it up in another thread, but I'd still love to see Jalynn Williams back on the field - looking up his time at Toledo, I think this might be his last year of elgibility (but am not sure).

Seems like a whole bunch of game-time decisions. Coulter is the starter and the OR and the backup at 3 of our 5 O-line positions. Sanez is also a starter and the listed backup at another position.
Hard to believe we would play Reid even though this is a huge game. He is listed as the “OR” and not the back-up. Bell said it was a different injury, but still seemed to be to the same leg/hamstring.

Just heard Vegas line:
Western - 12.5 Mercer + 12.5
Wow that is alot of points to lay if Reid isn't playing.....
