Belcher was a great fan but he didn’t want to put one inkling of funding into growing athletics. His great appearance at athletic events shadows the truth about what he thought.

Admin shut down the UGA transfer who wanted to come to western because of a very small miss in wcu gpa standards. When I say small i mean like 1/10 of a point below the standard they wanted. They could have pushed him through but they declined his transfer. Mark has a relationship with his high school coach and wanted him in Cullowhee. Admin said no. He is now at samford and is a beast. He will probably be in our backfield all day. His name is Laguins and he wears number 48.

But are you saying, or was the academic folks saying our academic standards are higher that Samford's ? I would find that very difficult to believe.

I don’t know all the details but I do know someone who knows the whole story, and have been told directly by him what I posted, but he was shut down over a 1/10 of a point. I don’t think it means samford has less of a standard but more of the fact that they may have been willing to overlook a 1/10 of a point to get this guy enrolled and our admin wasn’t. It wasn’t like he had a 1.0 gpa. He had like a 2.49 or something like that. *edit - I looked back at my messages. It was actually like 3/10 of a point gpa.

why did they turn the GA transfer down? What would the admin have to do with it. Should it not be up to Randy and MArk? I had heard this before and everyone that was giving Randy a hard time I felt it was misplaced. It should have been aimed at the administration. Between this and the administration turning down the GA transfer that would have helped on the defense immediately I thought about just walking away from Western, but after thinking more, "I'M READY TO STAND UP AND FIGHT". Nope, admin has to approve of it. I’m guessing from a grade standpoint. It was taken out of athletics hands for the decision. I would think that a transfer goes through the same process of admission as any other student who wants to transfer into WCU. So i highly doubt it is up to athletics to make the decision.

I think with all these facts coming out more people should be inclined to press the administration not the catamount club or Randy for action. It never was or is up to the athletic director on how money is spent when it comes to those items. The administration is where people need to voice their concerns

I agree 100%. Everyone needs to speak up to the highest level and i mean everyone. If it is a handful of people that is easy for them to push off but a majority is something different and the big donors i would think holds the most power. Money talks. I think our academic standards are higher than Samford's. I know a number of kids who couldn't get into UGA from my kids' high school, so they went to Samford. Not to say that their standards are weak, but I think they would make exceptions for athletes that Western may not.

I think a lot of the negativity comes from the fact that we should have done better during the easiest part of our schedule. The defense is currently ranked 81 out of 124 in FCS football... We are wasting our offense because the coaching staff cannot keep our defense players motivated and 100% each play.
I didn't expect miracles last season since the DC was in his first season, but I expected more this year.

Did anyone read on the other board, that Randy had funding lined up for a press-box, etc. and indoor practice field, and Dr. Belcher shout it down? I like everyone else thought Belcher was a friend of athletics, turns out is was all show. I just lost a lot of respect that I previously held for him. I this does not prove the folk in the white building are NEVER going to do anything for athletics, nothing will. I never trusted Belcher & said he never had the best interest of the Catamounts. The dead give away to this was the very low funding of the Athletic Program by the University. However, you have people on this Board that think he was the best thing since sliced bread. Belcher was a Cheerleader & a dishonest person when it came to sports at WCU. The things you listed are some of the same things people on this Board have listed as needing upgrading. We can’t hold Eaton accountable for not trying to upgrade the Athletic Facilities.
