Many on this board are making comments as if the season were over. We have 7 games remaining, which includes 6 conference games.
Right now, we are 1-1 in the SoCon, and have 2 DI wins. We need 5 more to have a fighting chance at the playoffs, and we are certainly not out of the race for a conference championship.
Yes we lost at Furman. We lost to the defending conference champions, that were projected to finish second in the SoCon. We lost by 6 points, at their place. We lost a game we could and probably should have won.
Does the coaches have lots of stuff they need to clean up going forward, of course. If they can do this, there is not a conference game going forward that we can not win. If they fail to do that, it could certainly be a dismal season. However, lets see what they come up with against the preseason expected champions, Samford next week. I think they know their back are to the wall, if they want a season they can be proud of, so..... lets give them a chance to show us what they can do before we crucify them.

You are absolutely correct. All is not lost. We will prepare this week and The Cats will beat Samford. These kids have allot of fight in them and they never gave up at Furman. Our offense will score lots of points against Samford and our defense will be another game better than they were last week. We have good coaches and good players. We might not win the conference championship or make the playoffs but for me I will still be a Catamount.

Thank you for that post. I am sick of peoples negativity and the sky is falling mentality. Most of the ones I know personally like that barely come to any games and give minimal amounts to the Catamount Club to help the student athletes. Fair weather fans who seem to always cheer everything on when we win but immediately scream disaster and sky is falling when we lose a game.
It pisses me off to no end to listen to these people run their mouths every day and do nothing to try to improve that state of athletics.

I understand your feelings, however, there is always two sides of a pancake, no matter how flat that pancake is.....
Given Western's record of poor football performance, it's understandable that even the biggest Catamount fans are disheartened. That includes some of the high profile givers to the athletics. So everyone needs an opportunity to vent, I'm just hoping the coaching staff can fix those problems (or enough to at least win over Samford).
What I don't want to see is my having to send threads to the "members only" board. Remember, all opinions are welcome, even wcu72's - Welcome Back '72.
I will say one thing, we do need to look at and discuss the realities that face the program, and not just view the program through our purple colored lens of those sunglasses. There actually is quite a few problems that need to be fixed, but I believe that many, if not most of those things will turn around in the weeks to come.......

You are exactly right, there are a lot of things that need to be fixed starting with the BOD and the administration. If you really talk with the people in the know you will find out that the administration blows a lot of hot air. Yes, that includes all the past leaders. Until we get a leader that cares about athletics and does something about it besides lip service we will always be having these same discussions. FLCATAMOUNT I did not think I would ever say this to you but what you have been preaching is exactly right. If people don't like it they just don't want to be honest about the situation.

The folks that occupy the white building, past and present, for the most part could less about athletics, or are even hostile against athletics. They feel athletics brings little to the table, and now with NC Promise, admissions which was already floating in applications, is now overwhelmed with applications.
So, bottom line, until a chancellor is hired that really cares and believes in the university's athletics programs, one that will not just give lip service, nothing is going to change in funding of athletics at WCU. The Chancellor has to drive this train.

With Speir, I have seen a culture change as well as improvements to the weight room for example. Also, people like to play on tv and with ESPN+ showing games, that will attract some kids. Walking into the WCU job will not be the same as someone walking into a Power 5 school. I do wish they would pressure wash the stands to give somewhat of a facelift.

What is Kennesaw States magic sauce? Is this only their 3rd or 4th season? Just asking.

And maybe the 30k+ students (with fees) and Atlanta location (rich donors, local big business support, etc.). Just saying, in after a few short years I would expect they have more support from the admin and big donors than WCU already.
The distance between us and KSU in terms of budget and donors is probably farther than the distance between them and ACC schools. I haven't researched it, but gut feel tells me that is probably true.
