My point was that coaches with way better records have been terminated. At all levels of football. My son loves Mark. Coach is there thru this next season. Hope the Cats finally get over the hump. The gentleman asked for some names IF the job was open I threw 4 out there.

Just win. Winning changes everything, but as you said, the administration and BOT have set athletics up to fail by not doing everything possible to upgrade facilities, pay coaches and fund the program appropriately for a D1 athletic department. Getting rid of Coach Speir is not the answer. He would be fine if he had the appropriate resources. Winning normally improves Football Attendance. However, it certainly did not excite the snowflakes at WCU during the 7 game winning seasons. Their attention time span must not go far beyond a half of a Football Game. WCU’s student SATS climb & Football Attendance goes down. People say that this is the new normal for College Students. That my friend is a lie. I have gone to a UT & an App State Game at the end of this season, the students were enthusiastic & did not walk out at halftime. App State is so far ahead of WCU it is sometimes hard to believe.

I agree - attendance is a problem just about everywhere, but my oldest attends FAU and they won 11 games last year, conference title, and a bowl game. Attendance got better during last year but went back to crap this season. Flip that to her and I going and watching FAU play at UCF on a Friday night early this season - both endzones were full of students 45 minutes or more BEFORE kickoff. They had chants and routines they did for every kickoff and 3rd down, etc. Nobody left early (check that - we did because FAU was down by 20 in the early 4th quarter).
It is true that UCF is winning, but it is also the students and administration embracing and striving to be a “football” school. They were winless just a few years ago, but have continued to have a great tailgate scene, good crowds, “festive” atmosphere, etc. App is similar just on a smaller scale (for now).
For the SoCon WCU obviously has great announced crowd sizes, and I love tailgating whenever I can get up there. But we don’t have a great in-game experience and we all know about the exodus at most halftimes.

Coach Speir taking in New Orleans to watch his son and the Mountaineers play in their bowl game. Also thinking about what could have been if the Cat would have just had a winning season in 2018.

I’m sure he looks back like the rest of us and wishes a different play call here or there. However, I’m hoping he is enjoying the moment with his family and pulling for his son and APP State.

should be recruiting instead of daydreaming---LOL-- At least his son got to go to a post season bowl game every year he was at App. That was much more that he would have gotten at Western. Maybe that is why he sent him to App. So that he would be part of a successful winning team. I don't care if Coach Speir leaves for another job eventually, but by interviewing with App and sending his son to App makes all the stuff he says about loving Western Carolina and wanting to be in Cullowhee all BS. If he loses next year he is gone and he gets no more credit from me for the things he has said. He is just hired help like everyone else. It is one thing to interview for a job but if you are at Western Carolina, you do not interview for a job with the goons. I remember he said that Jackson wanted to attend Western. We will see if that is true if Coach Speir is still around then. He really should be ashamed of himself. Sending his kid there to ride the pine for 4 years and by going to App games and wearing App gear. He does not get it that it is about hate.

In coaching, money rules over school loyalty. Just look at Huesman from Chattanooga, it's not personal, it how you're making a living. A coach can talk "fake" school loyalty to a school "A", until the day you leave for the next job at school "B".

Coaches talk loyalty and will jump in a heartbeat. If they stink it up the Coaching Fraternity will take care of them. I’ve never witnessed so many weak coaches landing jobs the minute they’re fired. D1 College Coaches are WAY overrated. Too many H.S. D3 D2 never get an interview.
