I agree. The day of coaches like Bob Waters and Jerry Moore that will stay in one job long term is over. Note, neither one attended the school they became associated with.

should be recruiting instead of daydreaming---LOL-- At least his son got to go to a post season bowl game every year he was at App. That was much more that he would have gotten at Western. Maybe that is why he sent him to App. So that he would be part of a successful winning team. I don't care if Coach Speir leaves for another job eventually, but by interviewing with App and sending his son to App makes all the stuff he says about loving Western Carolina and wanting to be in Cullowhee all BS. If he loses next year he is gone and he gets no more credit from me for the things he has said. He is just hired help like everyone else. It is one thing to interview for a job but if you are at Western Carolina, you do not interview for a job with the goons. I remember he said that Jackson wanted to attend Western. We will see if that is true if Coach Speir is still around then. He really should be ashamed of himself. Sending his kid there to ride the pine for 4 years and by going to App games and wearing App gear. He does not get it that it is about hate. Except that we still don't officially know what he did or did not do. So just saying that he interviewed for the position is just hot air currently. He should have shunned his kid and banished him from the house for going to App. I mean seriously **** Zeb for going to a college that we hated a few years ago. Also **** Speir for letting his kid have a choice and supporting him as well. (sarcasm by the way) Honestly good for Speir supporting his kid, even if Zeb did pick App over Western.

I knew when he went to the TEN/APP game yr. before last when we were playing ETSU that Saturday where his heart was. By the way, they upset us. I think we were 3 touchdown favorites. My guess is if we are 0-12 next yr. he will still be at WCU.

Wow, jumping in Speir for supporting his kid at App....real classy.
Zeb chose app. He wasn’t “sent” there.

He would not have gotten an offer from App State if it were not for his dad being friends with Satterfied. Who are you kidding that he chose App. Speir worked that deal on the side. When is the last kid from the Smokey Mountain conference to go to App? I don't think colleges were lining up to sign him. All I am saying that Coach Speir had to go out of his way to send him to App. If his dad was not Mark Speir, he would not have gone there as a walk on.

OK, in most cases, I respect your view and you have been a fair assessment and not the doom and gloom I have seen by many on here when things don't go well...but in this case you are letting your personal emotions get in the way. First we do not know if or how to the extent of the interview it was (if there even was one)...but it may have been a courtesy, or as you know he and Jerry Moore are close and it could have been done as a favor for him. I don't know and really don't care. But I do believe he wants to be in Cullowhee and will be here for the long haul unless he is fired. And I doubt if he loses next year he will be gone, again I mentioned before a winless season or a 1 win season would likely put him on the hot seat but if he goes 4-8, 5-7, he is not going to be gone. It is likely his son Zeb wanted to go to App St. Maybe he did not want to go to the same school and as the one his father coached, but I figured it was Zeb's choice and why would Coach Speir tell him he cannot go that its forbidden. Not everyone on here hates App St like many on here do and I am one of them. My quick backstory is I was born in Boone, my mom, grandpa, brother, aunt, cousin and I am sure others have all attended App St. My dad (who passed away in 1998) and my dad's side of the family all live in the Ashe County area. When it was my time to go to college, I applied and was accepted to App St back in 1999 but I visited the campus and due to the fact that I wanted a little distance to all my family, I chose to look into WCU. I loved the campus and the school and chose WCU. All my family made (light-hearted jokes to me) but I have never regretted the decision to attend WCU. When I earned my Masters degree, I wanted a different atmosphere so I ended up choosing East Carolina, 2 decisions I am proud of. But due to my own personal experience with App St. I do not "HATE" the school like many. I always joke to my family and former boss (who is an avid App St suppporter) that App St is my #3 school. I do pull for App St except when they play WCU or ECU. I pulled for App St in the N.O. Bowl because I have more a problem with Middle Tennesse State's coach Rick "Standstill" than I do with App St. So with that revelation, "let the attacks begin" lol. No matter what I am double-dipped in purple and gold.

You are railing on a kid and his father for a college choice. Who cares about whether Zeb chose to go to App or not, who cares if there was some sort of walk on deal. Zeb chose App State for his own reasons just like we picked WCU over any other college. Either way you see a kid doing what he wants to do and a father supporting him.

Ditto/ I am proud of Zeb for his graduation, and proud of Mark for being there to support his son. I tried to do the same thing as a father and a grandfather.
The Western Club of Georgia had our Christmas gathering last night, and it was very successful. Kudos to Ina Allen, our Club President for arranging the event. Geoff Collins a former Catamount football player, and presently the head football coach at Georgia Tech, and Tommy Scott, a former Defensive Coordinator at WCU and now the Defensive Coordinator at Reinhardt University made time during their recruiting to attend our event.

I agree with you Bob. Do you think FL needs therapy? Zeb will have a great future in football coaching. Mark did a good job of getting him exposed to a successful program at Peacock State.
