I really hope we blow FU out. Their fans are on the level of App or UNC fans when it comes to arrogance levels. Agree. We just need to stay focussed and take care of business. |

I really hope we blow FU out. Their fans are on the level of App or UNC fans when it comes to arrogance levels. The worst thing Furman does is the FU Chant or the "FU" all the time chant. Even so far to put FU on the back of their helmets. It was hella cringy during one of the basketball games at Furman I went to. You think for a Christian based university that wouldn't be their branding strategy or image they want to convey, but yeah thier fans are on a different level. |

Not sure who watched this weekend’s SOCON games, but it made me feel like WCU and UTC are head and shoulders the best teams in the league. I have no doubt Furman will come in and play better against us next week, but if we continue our play from the last few weeks we will score a lot of points against a team I am not sure can score more than about 24-28.
I have been trying to slow-play the Cats worrying about being cocky or regretting being too confident. But after watching games today and knowing we play the next two at home, I feel really good about our chances.

Well Flacat, I just watched FU play Samford. Based on what I saw, the Furman Game will tell us just how good our Offensive Line is this season. Their QB & the Running Back are very good runners. You can rest assured they will be coming after Cole. They will be the best FCS Team we’ll play this season. Right now I sure hope the Bells have a great game plan for the FU Game. We know how good our O-line is. Chat was leading the conference in Sacks and they had Zero against us. I have no idea who will win but I will be yelling for and pulling for The Cats. We will move the ball on them and score. They will need to do the same. I will put Desmond up against any back in FCS. I doubt that FUrmans RB is half as good as Desmond. Furman is loaded with a bunch of talented upperclassmen but they are slow compared to us. You might be right that Furman will stomp us and if we do lose, we are still having a great year. Flacat, I never said that FU will stomp us. I want WCU to win as bad as you do. I just think from watching them play, they have a very good defense & our offense has to be ready to play. The RB for them is around 240 pounds & literally runs over people & can score in the red zone. We have nobody in the secondary that can match up with him. I keep referring to the UTC Game & they scored 50 points on us. UTC played today against Mercer & beat them 22 to 10. I guess I’m just cautiously optimistic about the FU Game. One thing you can be assured of, they’ll roll into Cullowhee & you’ll see a very cocky team. |

I got a random question for any one who’s been watching the cats longer than I have… is this the highest ranked matchup in the history of FU vs WCU? Seeing as WCU is #9 and Furman is #5 I figure it has to be pretty high for this matchup

I think this is as high as WCU has ever been in the STATS poll. I am not sure it won’t be even closer in the polls after FU’s game against Samford and some other scores (like NDSU getting beaten badly for a 2nd loss). This may be 2 top-5 teams, or WCU might actually go ahead of the Paladins when pollsters judge our performance against Samford vs what Furman did.

Check out CatamountSports.com...WCU's Athletics site...and read the piece written by Daniel Hooker about the upcoming game. First top 20 matchup here since 2006 and biggest in Whitmire since the 1994 matchup with App State. I've been watching Catamount Football since the 60s and the Furman game is the biggest and most important game played in Cullowhee since the 1994 WCU-App State game which had SoCon and playoff implications on the line. Too bad most of our WCU students will miss it due to the fall break.

We finally have a coach and staff and players that make us competitive at the top of the SoCon. Furman has good players and a good coach too and he has been building his team longer. We are still very young. There is something special about this group and they will not take this game lightly. |
