Any bets on how many times Furman players use the fake injury tactic like they've done before to slow down our offense?

this is going to be a battle from the opening whistle. Both teams are going to have to make alot of in game changes to try to counter what the other team is doing

In the way the rules have changed, I don't expect this to be a factor. If the offense rotates a player in the refs stop the snap while the defense can also sub players in (as many as they want). I know in the game several years ago it was a big deal, but the rule changes and the fact that WCU doesn't operate the same as they used to (we get up on the line relatively fast but we don't go at break-neck speed) means I don't expect to see what I call a lot of "soccer moments" in this game. Samford does play at that fast-break pace and the Paladins only had a couple of times in that game where some guys slowed things down for injury. We sub a lot on offense for skill players, so that in and of itself means we can't go as fast as some others try to.

Seem to remember coach saying on his show that they like to run up tempo, but they mostly choose a tempo that works best for Cole

Another huge part of this weekend (and as much as I hate to do it I give credit to FUBeAR for calling it out) - the consensus #1 and #2 teams play on the road against other ranked opponents (#2 Montana State against #3 Sacramento State). So whoever wins the FU vs WCU game is going to move up, and the loser is probably not going to fall all that far.
This is "old school" SOCON football where it used to be common for national poll rankings and seeds to be on the line!!!

It has been a long time since it has been this way regarding SoCon football. It reminds me of all those Ga Southern/App/Wofford/Furman games in the late 90's early 2000

The other thing the fake injuries do is give Furman a free timeout so they can make changes and talk to their team. The refs can control this by giving a warning if it gets to be too much and then charge Furman with a timeout on subsequent occurrences. That’s how real officials in big boy football handle it. Honestly, I know it will happen with Furman, but I don’t think it will phase our offense. Everyone in the stadium knows that Desmond is going to get the ball but so far he has been unstoppable and I don’t think it will be any different Saturday. Some rare backs are just that good and that quick and he is one of them.

I have read alot of message boards ranging from AGS all the way to the Furman board and the one thing that keeps coming up is the tone that Furman is the underdog in this game. I don't really understand that narrative as they have been ranked ahead of us all year in the polls. Is that a story Furman is trying to spin so they can get up for the game as they are being overlooked? Even on Clay Hendrix's coaches show he talked about being overlooked and underestimated all year long. I don't get how you can say that when you have been top 10 all year.

At this point, narratives and polls can and should be pushed aside. We just have to hope that coaches and staff prepare the best possible game plan with what they know and the players are healthy and are focused. Then, if things don't turn our way during the game, we can only hope adjustments can be made and we don't let the gravity of the game get in our heads and defeat ourselves.
