While it is true given the health of the team that winning a playoff game would be tough, and if we happened to win the first round we very well could get crushed against somebody like SDSU or Montana in the second. But another week or two of experience, a chance for the seniors to do something that hasn’t happened in 40 years, the recruiting boost, and the fact that playoff teams typically start the next year ranked and get the benefit of the doubt when the bubble and seeding conversations happen next year are all reasons why IMO we should all want to be in.
I don’t think there is a chance we make it, but I certainly would prefer to be in than to be out.

Davidson is not in. Drake won the Pioneer League.

Nice try homer! I appreciate your optimism. I really prefer to just stay out of the playoffs. Especially since we would be backing in. I'd rather stay out rather than take an embarrassing loss to Gardner Webb or Davidson. Now that Furman will probably not be seeded, the first game (should the unlikely happen and WCU gets in), could be at Furman.

The NCAA tries very hard to not have a conference rematch in the first round. I expect Furman will still be seeded and get a bye, but they will be 6th or 7th. That was a bad loss, but there is a good chance that some 3-loss teams will get seeds this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see NDSU as the 8-seed at 8-3 and Albany as high as 5 with a 9-3 record.
I expect Furman at around #6 and Mercer playing somebody like Gardner-Webb with the winner going to Furman. As WCU fans who would you guys pull for in an FU vs MU rematch?

We all know the NCAA lives that money

I guess that with both Furman and Western losses yesterday, it kind of validates what all the MVFC, Big Sky, & CAA folks say about the SoCon - "not ready for prime time" yet...
Until the SoCon gets a couple of teams that can totally dominate the conference (and not just barely win games as FU did), dominate like Appy State and 'gnat U" did back in the day, the SoCon will face this "lack of respect" problem yearly.

Seems like Mercer has the best chance to make a run. Plus Furman feels like our most intense rivalry at this point
